KJV ² For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

LSG ² (38:3) Car tes flèches m'ont atteint, Et ta main s'est appesantie sur moi.

VULC ² [Dixi : Custodiam vias meas :
ut non delinquam in lingua mea.
Posui ori meo custodiam,
cum consisteret peccator adversum me.

WLC ² יְֽהוָ֗ה אַל־ בְּקֶצְפְּךָ֥ תוֹכִיחֵ֑נִי וּֽבַחֲמָתְךָ֥ תְיַסְּרֵֽנִי׃

KJV ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

LSG ³ (38:4) Il n'y a rien de sain dans ma chair à cause de ta colère, Il n'y a plus de vigueur dans mes os à cause de mon péché.

VULC ³ Obmutui, et humiliatus sum, et silui a bonis ;
et dolor meus renovatus est.

WLC ³ כִּֽי־ חִ֭צֶּיךָ נִ֣חֲתוּ בִ֑י וַתִּנְחַ֖ת עָלַ֣י יָדֶֽךָ׃

KJV ⁴ For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

LSG ⁴ (38:5) Car mes iniquités s'élèvent au-dessus de ma tête ; Comme un lourd fardeau, elles sont trop pesantes pour moi.

VULC ⁴ Concaluit cor meum intra me ;
et in meditatione mea exardescet ignis.

WLC ⁴ אֵין־ מְתֹ֣ם בִּ֭בְשָׂרִי מִפְּנֵ֣י זַעְמֶ֑ךָ אֵין־ שָׁל֥וֹם בַּ֝עֲצָמַ֗י מִפְּנֵ֥י חַטָּאתִֽי׃

KJV ⁵ My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

LSG ⁵ (38:6) Mes plaies sont infectes et purulentes, Par l'effet de ma folie.

VULC ⁵ Locutus sum in lingua mea :
Notum fac mihi, Domine, finem meum,
et numerum dierum meorum quis est,
ut sciam quid desit mihi.

WLC ⁵ כִּ֣י עֲ֭וֺנֹתַי עָבְר֣וּ רֹאשִׁ֑י כְּמַשָּׂ֥א כָ֝בֵ֗ד יִכְבְּד֥וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

KJV ⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

LSG ⁶ (38:7) Je suis courbé, abattu au dernier point ; Tout le jour je marche dans la tristesse.

VULC ⁶ Ecce mensurabiles posuisti dies meos,
et substantia mea tamquam nihilum ante te.
Verumtamen universa vanitas, omnis homo vivens.

WLC ⁶ הִבְאִ֣ישׁוּ נָ֭מַקּוּ חַבּוּרֹתָ֑י מִ֝פְּנֵ֗י אִוַּלְתִּֽי׃

KJV ⁷ For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

LSG ⁷ (38:8) Car un mal brûlant dévore mes entrailles, Et il n'y a rien de sain dans ma chair.

VULC ⁷ Verumtamen in imagine pertransit homo ;
sed et frustra conturbatur :
thesaurizat, et ignorat cui congregabit ea.

WLC ⁷ נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי שַׁחֹ֣תִי עַד־ מְאֹ֑ד כָּל־ הַ֝יּ֗וֹם קֹדֵ֥ר הִלָּֽכְתִּי׃

KJV ⁸ I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

LSG ⁸ (38:9) Je suis sans force, entièrement brisé ; Le trouble de mon coeur m'arrache des gémissements.

VULC ⁸ Et nunc quæ est exspectatio mea : nonne Dominus ?
et substantia mea apud te est.

WLC ⁸ כִּֽי־ כְ֭סָלַי מָלְא֣וּ נִקְלֶ֑ה וְאֵ֥ין מְ֝תֹ֗ם בִּבְשָׂרִֽי׃

KJV ⁹ Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

LSG ⁹ (38:10) Seigneur ! tous mes désirs sont devant toi, Et mes soupirs ne te sont point cachés.

VULC ⁹ Ab omnibus iniquitatibus meis erue me :
opprobrium insipienti dedisti me.

WLC ⁹ נְפוּג֣וֹתִי וְנִדְכֵּ֣יתִי עַד־ מְאֹ֑ד שָׁ֝אַ֗גְתִּי מִֽנַּהֲמַ֥ת לִבִּֽי׃

KJV ¹⁰ My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

LSG ¹⁰ (38:11) Mon coeur est agité, ma force m'abandonne, Et la lumière de mes yeux n'est plus même avec moi.

VULC ¹⁰ Obmutui, et non aperui os meum,
quoniam tu fecisti ;

WLC ¹⁰ אֲ‍ֽדֹנָי נֶגְדְּךָ֥ כָל־ תַּאֲוָתִ֑י וְ֝אַנְחָתִ֗י מִמְּךָ֥ לֹא־ נִסְתָּֽרָה׃

KJV ¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

LSG ¹¹ (38:12) Mes amis et mes connaissances s'éloignent de ma plaie, Et mes proches se tiennent à l'écart.

WLC ¹¹ לִבִּ֣י סְ֭חַרְחַר עֲזָבַ֣נִי כֹחִ֑י וְֽאוֹר־ עֵינַ֥י גַּם־ הֵ֝֗ם אֵ֣ין אִתִּֽי׃

KJV ¹² They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

LSG ¹² (38:13) Ceux qui en veulent à ma vie tendent leurs pièges ; Ceux qui cherchent mon malheur disent des méchancetés, Et méditent tout le jour des tromperies.

VULC ¹² A fortitudine manus tuæ ego defeci in increpationibus :
propter iniquitatem corripuisti hominem.
Et tabescere fecisti sicut araneam animam ejus :
verumtamen vane conturbatur omnis homo.

WLC ¹² אֹֽהֲבַ֨י ׀ וְרֵעַ֗י מִנֶּ֣גֶד נִגְעִ֣י יַעֲמֹ֑דוּ וּ֝קְרוֹבַ֗י מֵרָחֹ֥ק עָמָֽדוּ׃

KJV ¹³ But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

LSG ¹³ (38:14) Et moi, je suis comme un sourd, je n'entends pas ; Je suis comme un muet, qui n'ouvre pas la bouche.

VULC ¹³ Exaudi orationem meam, Domine, et deprecationem meam ;
auribus percipe lacrimas meas.
Ne sileas, quoniam advena ego sum apud te,
et peregrinus sicut omnes patres mei.

WLC ¹³ וַיְנַקְשׁ֤וּ ׀ מְבַקְשֵׁ֬י נַפְשִׁ֗י וְדֹרְשֵׁ֣י רָ֭עָתִי דִּבְּר֣וּ הַוּ֑וֹת וּ֝מִרְמ֗וֹת כָּל־ הַיּ֥וֹם יֶהְגּֽוּ׃

KJV ¹⁴ Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

LSG ¹⁴ (38:15) Je suis comme un homme qui n'entend pas, Et dans la bouche duquel il n'y a point de réplique.

VULC ¹⁴ Remitte mihi, ut refrigerer
priusquam abeam et amplius non ero.]

WLC ¹⁴ וַאֲנִ֣י כְ֭חֵרֵשׁ לֹ֣א אֶשְׁמָ֑ע וּ֝כְאִלֵּ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפְתַּח־ פִּֽיו׃

KJV ¹⁵ For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

LSG ¹⁵ (38:16) Éternel ! c'est en toi que j'espère ; Tu répondras, Seigneur, mon Dieu !

WLC ¹⁵ וָאֱהִ֗י כְּ֭אִישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־ שֹׁמֵ֑עַ וְאֵ֥ין בְּ֝פִ֗יו תּוֹכָחֽוֹת׃

KJV ¹⁶ For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

LSG ¹⁶ (38:17) Car je dis: Ne permets pas qu'ils se réjouissent à mon sujet, Qu'ils s'élèvent contre moi, si mon pied chancelle !

WLC ¹⁶ כִּֽי־ לְךָ֣ יְהוָ֣ה הוֹחָ֑לְתִּי אַתָּ֥ה תַ֝עֲנֶ֗ה אֲדֹנָ֥י אֱלֹהָֽי׃

KJV ¹⁷ For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

LSG ¹⁷ (38:18) Car je suis près de tomber, Et ma douleur est toujours devant moi.

WLC ¹⁷ כִּֽי־ אָ֭מַרְתִּי פֶּן־ יִשְׂמְחוּ־ לִ֑י בְּמ֥וֹט רַ֝גְלִ֗י עָלַ֥י הִגְדִּֽילוּ׃

KJV ¹⁸ For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

LSG ¹⁸ (38:19) Car je reconnais mon iniquité, Je suis dans la crainte à cause de mon péché.

WLC ¹⁸ כִּֽי־ אֲ֭נִי לְצֶ֣לַע נָכ֑וֹן וּמַכְאוֹבִ֖י נֶגְדִּ֣י תָמִֽיד׃

KJV ¹⁹ But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

LSG ¹⁹ (38:20) Et mes ennemis sont pleins de vie, pleins de force ; Ceux qui me haïssent sans cause sont nombreux.

WLC ¹⁹ כִּֽי־ עֲוֺנִ֥י אַגִּ֑יד אֶ֝דְאַ֗ג מֵֽחַטָּאתִֽי׃

KJV ²⁰ They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

LSG ²⁰ (38:21) Ils me rendent le mal pour le bien ; Ils sont mes adversaires, parce que je recherche le bien.

WLC ²⁰ וְֽ֭אֹיְבַי חַיִּ֣ים עָצֵ֑מוּ וְרַבּ֖וּ שֹׂנְאַ֣י שָֽׁקֶר׃

KJV ²¹ Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.

LSG ²¹ (38:22) Ne m'abandonne pas, Éternel ! Mon Dieu, ne t'éloigne pas de moi !

WLC ²¹ וּמְשַׁלְּמֵ֣י רָ֭עָה תַּ֣חַת טוֹבָ֑ה יִ֝שְׂטְנ֗וּנִי תַּ֣חַת טֽוֹב׃

KJV ²² Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

LSG ²² (38:23) Viens en hâte à mon secours, Seigneur, mon salut !

WLC ²² אַל־ תַּֽעַזְבֵ֥נִי יְהוָ֑ה אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י אַל־ תִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

WLC ²³ ח֥וּשָׁה לְעֶזְרָתִ֑י אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י תְּשׁוּעָתִֽי׃
