KJV ¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

S21 ¹⁴ Mais comment donc feront-ils appel à celui en qui ils n'ont pas cru? Et comment croiront-ils en celui dont ils n'ont pas entendu parler? Et comment entendront-ils parler de lui, si personne ne l'annonce?

KJV ¹⁵ And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

S21 ¹⁵ Et comment l'annoncera-t-on, si personne n'est envoyé? Comme il est écrit: Qu'ils sont beaux les pieds [de ceux qui annoncent la paix,] de ceux qui annoncent de bonnes nouvelles! 

KJV ¹⁶ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

S21 ¹⁶ Mais tous n'ont pas obéi à la bonne nouvelle. En effet, Esaïe dit: Seigneur, qui a cru à notre prédication? 

KJV ¹⁷ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

S21 ¹⁷ Ainsi la foi vient de ce qu'on entend et ce qu'on entend vient de la parole de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁸ But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

S21 ¹⁸ Je demande alors: «N'auraient-ils pas entendu?» Au contraire! Leur voix est allée par toute la terre, et leurs discours jusqu'aux extrémités du monde. 

KJV ¹⁹ But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

S21 ¹⁹ Je demande encore: «Israël n'aurait-il pas compris?» Moïse, le premier, dit: Je provoquerai votre jalousie par ceux qui ne sont pas une nation, je provoquerai votre irritation par une nation sans intelligence. 

KJV ²⁰ But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

S21 ²⁰ Quant à Esaïe, il pousse la hardiesse jusqu'à déclarer: Je me suis laissé trouver par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas, je me suis révélé à ceux qui ne me demandaient rien.

KJV ²¹ But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

S21 ²¹ Mais au sujet d'Israël il dit: A longueur de journée, j'ai tendu mes mains vers un peuple désobéissant et rebelle. 

KJV ¹ I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

S21 ¹ Je demande donc: «Dieu aurait-il rejeté son peuple?» Certainement pas! En effet, je suis moi-même israélite, de la descendance d'Abraham, de la tribu de Benjamin.

KJV ² God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,

S21 ² Dieu n'a pas rejeté son peuple, qu'il a connu d'avance. Ne savez-vous pas ce que l'Ecriture rapporte au sujet d'Elie, quand le prophète adresse à Dieu cette plainte contre Israël:

KJV ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

S21 ³ Seigneur, ils ont tué tes prophètes, ils ont démoli tes autels; moi seul, je suis resté, et ils cherchent à m'enlever la vie ?

KJV ⁴ But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

S21 ⁴ Mais quelle réponse Dieu lui donne-t-il? Je me suis réservé 7000 hommes qui n'ont pas plié les genoux devant Baal. 

KJV ⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

S21 ⁵ De même, dans le temps présent aussi, il y a un reste conformément à l'élection de la grâce.

KJV ⁶ And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

S21 ⁶ Or, si c'est par grâce, ce n'est plus par les œuvres, autrement la grâce n'est plus une grâce. [Et si c'est par les œuvres, ce n'est plus une grâce, autrement l'œuvre n'est plus une œuvre.]

KJV ⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

S21 ⁷ Qu'en est-il donc? Ce qu'Israël recherche, il ne l'a pas obtenu, mais ceux qui ont été choisis l'ont obtenu et les autres ont été endurcis.

KJV ⁸ (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

S21 ⁸ Comme il est écrit, Dieu leur a donné un esprit de torpeur, des yeux pour ne pas voir et des oreilles pour ne pas entendre, jusqu'à aujourd'hui.

KJV ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

S21 ⁹ David aussi dit: Que leur table soit pour eux un piège, un filet, un obstacle et un moyen de punition!

KJV ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

S21 ¹⁰ Que leurs yeux soient obscurcis pour ne pas voir, fais-leur courber constamment le dos!
