KJV ² God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,

S21 ² Dieu n'a pas rejeté son peuple, qu'il a connu d'avance. Ne savez-vous pas ce que l'Ecriture rapporte au sujet d'Elie, quand le prophète adresse à Dieu cette plainte contre Israël:

KJV ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

S21 ³ Seigneur, ils ont tué tes prophètes, ils ont démoli tes autels; moi seul, je suis resté, et ils cherchent à m'enlever la vie ?

KJV ⁴ But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

S21 ⁴ Mais quelle réponse Dieu lui donne-t-il? Je me suis réservé 7000 hommes qui n'ont pas plié les genoux devant Baal. 

KJV ⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

S21 ⁵ De même, dans le temps présent aussi, il y a un reste conformément à l'élection de la grâce.

KJV ⁶ And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

S21 ⁶ Or, si c'est par grâce, ce n'est plus par les œuvres, autrement la grâce n'est plus une grâce. [Et si c'est par les œuvres, ce n'est plus une grâce, autrement l'œuvre n'est plus une œuvre.]

KJV ⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

S21 ⁷ Qu'en est-il donc? Ce qu'Israël recherche, il ne l'a pas obtenu, mais ceux qui ont été choisis l'ont obtenu et les autres ont été endurcis.

KJV ⁸ (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

S21 ⁸ Comme il est écrit, Dieu leur a donné un esprit de torpeur, des yeux pour ne pas voir et des oreilles pour ne pas entendre, jusqu'à aujourd'hui.

KJV ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

S21 ⁹ David aussi dit: Que leur table soit pour eux un piège, un filet, un obstacle et un moyen de punition!

KJV ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

S21 ¹⁰ Que leurs yeux soient obscurcis pour ne pas voir, fais-leur courber constamment le dos!

KJV ¹¹ I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

S21 ¹¹ Je demande donc: «Serait-ce pour tomber que les Israélites ont trébuché?» Certainement pas! Mais grâce à leur faux pas, les non-Juifs ont eu accès au salut afin de provoquer leur jalousie.

KJV ¹² Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

S21 ¹² Or, si leur faux pas a fait la richesse du monde et leur déchéance la richesse des non-Juifs, cela sera d'autant plus le cas avec leur complet rétablissement.

KJV ¹³ For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

S21 ¹³ Je vous le dis, à vous qui êtes d'origine non juive: en tant qu'apôtre des non-Juifs, je me montre fier de mon ministère

KJV ¹⁴ If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

S21 ¹⁴ afin, si possible, de provoquer la jalousie de mon peuple et d'en sauver quelques-uns.

KJV ¹⁵ For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

S21 ¹⁵ En effet, si leur mise à l'écart a entraîné la réconciliation du monde, que produira leur réintégration, sinon le passage de la mort à la vie?

KJV ¹⁶ For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.

S21 ¹⁶ Or si la première part de pain est sainte, tout le pain l'est aussi; et si la racine est sainte, les branches le sont aussi.

KJV ¹⁷ And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

S21 ¹⁷ Mais si quelques-unes des branches ont été coupées et si toi, qui étais un olivier sauvage, tu as été greffé parmi les branches restantes et tu es devenu participant de la racine et de la sève de l'olivier,

KJV ¹⁸ Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

S21 ¹⁸ ne te vante pas aux dépens de ces branches. Si tu te vantes, sache que ce n'est pas toi qui portes la racine, mais que c'est la racine qui te porte.

KJV ¹⁹ Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

S21 ¹⁹ Tu diras alors: «Des branches ont été coupées afin que moi je sois greffé.»

KJV ²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

S21 ²⁰ C'est vrai. Elles ont été retranchées à cause de leur incrédulité et toi, c'est par la foi que tu subsistes. Ne fais pas preuve d'orgueil, mais aie de la crainte,

KJV ²¹ For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

S21 ²¹ car si Dieu n'a pas épargné les branches naturelles, il ne t'épargnera pas non plus.

KJV ²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

S21 ²² Considère donc la bonté et la sévérité de Dieu: sévérité envers ceux qui sont tombés et bonté envers toi, si tu demeures dans sa bonté; autrement, toi aussi tu seras retranché.

KJV ²³ And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.

S21 ²³ Quant aux Israélites, s'ils ne persistent pas dans l'incrédulité, ils seront greffés, car Dieu est puissant pour les greffer de nouveau.

KJV ²⁴ For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

S21 ²⁴ Si toi, tu as été coupé de l'olivier sauvage auquel tu appartenais par nature et greffé contrairement à ta nature sur l'olivier cultivé, à plus forte raison eux seront-ils greffés conformément à leur nature sur leur propre olivier.

KJV ²⁵ For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

S21 ²⁵ En effet, je ne veux pas, frères et sœurs, que vous ignoriez ce mystère, afin que vous ne vous preniez pas pour des sages: une partie d'Israël est tombée dans l'endurcissement jusqu'à ce que l'ensemble des non-Juifs soit entré.

KJV ²⁶ And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

S21 ²⁶ Et ainsi tout Israël sera sauvé, comme le dit l'Ecriture: Le libérateur viendra de Sion et il écartera de Jacob les impiétés.

KJV ²⁷ For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

S21 ²⁷ Et telle sera mon alliance avec eux, lorsque j'enlèverai leurs péchés. 

KJV ²⁸ As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father's sakes.

S21 ²⁸ En ce qui concerne l'Evangile, ils sont ennemis à cause de vous; mais en ce qui concerne l'élection, ils sont aimés à cause de leurs ancêtres.

KJV ²⁹ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

S21 ²⁹ En effet, les dons et l'appel de Dieu sont irrévocables.

KJV ³⁰ For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

S21 ³⁰ De même que vous avez autrefois désobéi à Dieu et que vous avez maintenant obtenu grâce à cause de leur désobéissance,

KJV ³¹ Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

S21 ³¹ de même ils ont maintenant désobéi afin d'obtenir eux aussi grâce à cause de la grâce qui vous a été faite,

KJV ³² For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

S21 ³² car Dieu a enfermé tous les hommes dans la désobéissance pour faire grâce à tous.

KJV ³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

S21 ³³ Quelle profondeur ont la richesse, la sagesse et la connaissance de Dieu! Que ses jugements sont insondables, et ses voies impénétrables! En effet,

KJV ³⁴ For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

S21 ³⁴ qui a connu la pensée du Seigneur, ou qui a été son conseiller? 

KJV ³⁵ Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

S21 ³⁵ Qui lui a donné le premier, pour être payé en retour? 

KJV ³⁶ For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

S21 ³⁶ C'est de lui, par lui et pour lui que sont toutes choses. A lui la gloire dans tous les siècles! Amen!
