KJV ¹ What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

S21 ¹ Que dirons-nous donc d'Abraham, notre ancêtre? Qu'a-t-il obtenu par ses propres efforts?

TR1550 ¹ τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν ἀβραὰμ τὸν πατέρα ἡμῶν εὑρηκέναι κατὰ σάρκα

KJV ² For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

S21 ² Si Abraham a été considéré comme juste sur la base de ses œuvres, il a de quoi se montrer fier, mais non devant Dieu.

TR1550 ² εἰ γὰρ ἀβραὰμ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη ἔχει καύχημα ἀλλ᾽ οὐ πρὸς τὸν θεόν

KJV ³ For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

S21 ³ En effet, que dit l'Ecriture? Abraham a eu confiance en Dieu et cela lui a été compté comme justice. 

TR1550 ³ τί γὰρ ἡ γραφὴ λέγει ἐπίστευσεν δὲ ἀβραὰμ τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

KJV ⁴ Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

S21 ⁴ Or, si quelqu'un accomplit quelque chose, le salaire est porté à son compte non comme une grâce, mais comme un dû.

TR1550 ⁴ τῷ δὲ ἐργαζομένῳ ὁ μισθὸς οὐ λογίζεται κατὰ χάριν ἀλλὰ κατὰ τό ὀφείλημα

KJV ⁵ But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

S21 ⁵ Par contre, si quelqu'un ne fait rien mais croit en celui qui déclare juste l'impie, sa foi lui est comptée comme justice.

TR1550 ⁵ τῷ δὲ μὴ ἐργαζομένῳ πιστεύοντι δὲ ἐπὶ τὸν δικαιοῦντα τὸν ἀσεβῆ λογίζεται ἡ πίστις αὐτοῦ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

KJV ⁶ Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

S21 ⁶ De même, David exprime le bonheur de l'homme à qui Dieu attribue la justice sans les œuvres:

TR1550 ⁶ καθάπερ καὶ δαβὶδ λέγει τὸν μακαρισμὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ᾧ ὁ θεὸς λογίζεται δικαιοσύνην χωρὶς ἔργων

KJV ⁷ Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

S21 ⁷ Heureux ceux dont les fautes sont pardonnées et dont les péchés sont couverts,

TR1550 ⁷ μακάριοι ὧν ἀφέθησαν αἱ ἀνομίαι καὶ ὧν ἐπεκαλύφθησαν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι

KJV ⁸ Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

S21 ⁸ heureux l'homme à qui le Seigneur ne tient pas compte de son péché! 

TR1550 ⁸ μακάριος ἀνὴρ ᾧ οὗ μὴ λογίσηται κύριος ἁμαρτίαν

KJV ⁹ Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

S21 ⁹ Ce bonheur n'est-il que pour les circoncis, ou bien est-il également pour les incirconcis? En effet, nous disons que la foi d'Abraham lui a été comptée comme justice.

TR1550 ⁹ ὁ μακαρισμὸς οὖν οὗτος ἐπὶ τὴν περιτομὴν ἢ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν ἀκροβυστίαν λέγομεν γάρ ὅτι ἐλογίσθη τῷ ἀβραὰμ ἡ πίστις εἰς δικαιοσύνην

KJV ¹⁰ How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

S21 ¹⁰ Quand donc a-t-elle été portée à son compte? Etait-ce après ou avant sa circoncision? Ce n'était pas après sa circoncision, mais bien alors qu'il était incirconcis.

TR1550 ¹⁰ πῶς οὖν ἐλογίσθη ἐν περιτομῇ ὄντι ἢ ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ οὐκ ἐν περιτομῇ ἀλλ᾽ ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ

KJV ¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

S21 ¹¹ Et il a reçu le signe de la circoncision comme le gage de la justice qu'il avait obtenue par la foi alors qu'il était incirconcis. Il est ainsi le père de tous les incirconcis qui croient, afin que la justice soit aussi portée à leur compte.

TR1550 ¹¹ καὶ σημεῖον ἔλαβεν περιτομῆς σφραγῖδα τῆς δικαιοσύνης τῆς πίστεως τῆς ἐν τῇ ἀκροβυστίᾳ εἰς τὸ εἶναι αὐτὸν πατέρα πάντων τῶν πιστευόντων δι᾽ ἀκροβυστίας εἰς τὸ λογισθῆναι καὶ αὐτοῖς τὴν δικαιοσύνην

KJV ¹² And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

S21 ¹² Il est aussi le père des circoncis qui ne se contentent pas d'être circoncis mais qui marchent aussi sur les traces de la foi de notre ancêtre Abraham quand il était encore incirconcis.

TR1550 ¹² καὶ πατέρα περιτομῆς τοῖς οὐκ ἐκ περιτομῆς μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τοῖς στοιχοῦσιν τοῖς ἴχνεσιν τῆς ἐν τῇ ἀκροβυστίᾳ πίστεως τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἀβραάμ

KJV ¹³ For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

S21 ¹³ En effet, ce n'est pas par la loi que la promesse de recevoir le monde en héritage a été faite à Abraham ou à sa descendance, mais c'est par la justice de la foi,

TR1550 ¹³ οὐ γὰρ διὰ νόμου ἡ ἐπαγγελία τῷ ἀβραὰμ ἢ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ τὸ κληρονόμον αὐτὸν εἶναι τοῦ κόσμου ἀλλὰ διὰ δικαιοσύνης πίστεως

KJV ¹⁴ For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

S21 ¹⁴ car si l'on devient héritier par la loi, la foi est dépourvue de sens et la promesse sans effets.

TR1550 ¹⁴ εἰ γὰρ οἱ ἐκ νόμου κληρονόμοι κεκένωται ἡ πίστις καὶ κατήργηται ἡ ἐπαγγελία

KJV ¹⁵ Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

S21 ¹⁵ En fait, la loi produit la colère de Dieu, puisque là où il n'y a pas de loi, il n'y a pas non plus de transgression.

TR1550 ¹⁵ ὁ γὰρ νόμος ὀργὴν κατεργάζεται οὗ γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν νόμος οὐδὲ παράβασις

KJV ¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

S21 ¹⁶ C'est donc par la foi que l'on devient héritier, pour que ce soit par grâce et que la promesse soit assurée à toute la descendance, non seulement à celle qui dépend de la loi, mais aussi à celle qui a la foi d'Abraham. En effet, Abraham est notre père à tous, comme cela est d'ailleurs écrit:

TR1550 ¹⁶ διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ πίστεως ἵνα κατὰ χάριν εἰς τὸ εἶναι βεβαίαν τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν παντὶ τῷ σπέρματι οὐ τῷ ἐκ τοῦ νόμου μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τῷ ἐκ πίστεως ἀβραάμ ὅς ἐστιν πατὴρ πάντων ἡμῶν

KJV ¹⁷ (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

S21 ¹⁷ Je t'ai établi père d'un grand nombre de nations. Il est notre père devant le Dieu en qui il a cru, le Dieu qui donne la vie aux morts et appelle ce qui n'existe pas à l'existence.

TR1550 ¹⁷ καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν τέθεικά σε κατέναντι οὗ ἐπίστευσεν θεοῦ τοῦ ζῳοποιοῦντος τοὺς νεκροὺς καὶ καλοῦντος τὰ μὴ ὄντα ὡς ὄντα

KJV ¹⁸ Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

S21 ¹⁸ Espérant contre toute espérance, Abraham a cru et est ainsi devenu le père d'un grand nombre de nations, conformément à ce qui lui avait été dit: Telle sera ta descendance. 

TR1550 ¹⁸ ὃς παρ᾽ ἐλπίδα ἐπ᾽ ἐλπίδι ἐπίστευσεν εἰς τὸ γενέσθαι αὐτὸν πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν κατὰ τὸ εἰρημένον οὕτως ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου

KJV ¹⁹ And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

S21 ¹⁹ Sans faiblir dans la foi, il n'a pas considéré que son corps était déjà usé, puisqu'il avait près de 100 ans, ni que Sara n'était plus en état d'avoir des enfants.

TR1550 ¹⁹ καὶ μὴ ἀσθενήσας τῇ πίστει οὐ κατενόησεν τὸ ἑαυτοῦ σῶμα ἤδη νενεκρωμένον ἑκατονταετής που ὑπάρχων καὶ τὴν νέκρωσιν τῆς μήτρας σάῤῥας

KJV ²⁰ He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

S21 ²⁰ Il n'a pas douté, par incrédulité, de la promesse de Dieu, mais il a été fortifié par la foi et il a rendu gloire à Dieu,

TR1550 ²⁰ εἰς δὲ τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ θεοῦ οὐ διεκρίθη τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ ἀλλ᾽ ἐνεδυναμώθη τῇ πίστει δοὺς δόξαν τῷ θεῷ

KJV ²¹ And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

S21 ²¹ car il avait la pleine conviction que ce que Dieu promet, il peut aussi l'accomplir.

TR1550 ²¹ καὶ πληροφορηθεὶς ὅτι ὃ ἐπήγγελται δυνατός ἐστιν καὶ ποιῆσαι

KJV ²² And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

S21 ²² C'est pourquoi cela lui a été compté comme justice.

TR1550 ²² διὸ καὶ ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ εἰς δικαιοσύνην

KJV ²³ Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

S21 ²³ Or ce n'est pas pour lui seulement qu'il est écrit que la foi a été portée à son compte,

TR1550 ²³ οὐκ ἐγράφη δὲ δι᾽ αὐτὸν μόνον ὅτι ἐλογίσθη αὐτῷ

KJV ²⁴ But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

S21 ²⁴ mais c'est aussi pour nous. Elle sera portée à notre compte, puisque nous croyons en celui qui a ressuscité Jésus notre Seigneur,

TR1550 ²⁴ ἀλλὰ καὶ δι᾽ ἡμᾶς οἷς μέλλει λογίζεσθαι τοῖς πιστεύουσιν ἐπὶ τὸν ἐγείραντα ἰησοῦν τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν ἐκ νεκρῶν

KJV ²⁵ Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

S21 ²⁵ lui qui a été donné à cause de nos fautes et qui est ressuscité à cause de notre justification.
