LSG ¹ Boaz monta à la porte, et s'y arrêta. Or voici, celui qui avait droit de rachat, et dont Boaz avait parlé, vint à passer. Boaz lui dit: Approche, reste ici, toi un tel. Et il s'approcha, et s'arrêta.

KJV ² And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

LSG ² Boaz prit alors dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville, et il dit: Asseyez-vous ici. Et ils s'assirent.

KJV ³ And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:

KJV ⁴ And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.

LSG ⁴ J'ai cru devoir t'en informer, et te dire: Acquiers-la, en présence des habitants et en présence des anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux racheter, rachète ; mais si tu ne veux pas, déclare-le-moi, afin que je le sache. Car il n'y a personne avant toi qui ait le droit de rachat, et je l'ai après toi. Et il répondit: je rachèterai.

VULC ⁴ quod audire te volui, et tibi dicere coram cunctis sedentibus, et majoribus natu de populo meo. Si vis possidere jure propinquitatis, eme, et posside : sin autem displicet tibi, hoc ipsum indica mihi, ut sciam quid facere debeam : nullus enim est propinquus, excepto te, qui prior es, et me, qui secundus sum. At ille respondit : Ego agrum emam.

KJV ⁵ Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

LSG ⁵ Boaz dit: Le jour où tu acquerras le champ de la main de Naomi, tu l'acquerras en même temps de Ruth la Moabite, femme du défunt, pour relever le nom du défunt dans son héritage.

VULC ⁵ Cui dixit Booz : Quando emeris agrum de manu mulieris, Ruth quoque Moabitidem, quæ uxor defuncti fuit, debes accipere : ut suscites nomen propinqui tui in hæreditate sua.

KJV ⁶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

LSG ⁶ Et celui qui avait le droit de rachat répondit: Je ne puis pas racheter pour mon compte, crainte de détruire mon héritage ; prends pour toi mon droit de rachat, car je ne puis pas racheter.

VULC ⁶ Qui respondit : Cedo juri propinquitatis : neque enim posteritatem familiæ meæ delere debeo : tu meo utere privilegio, quo me libenter carere profiteor.

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַגֹּאֵ֗ל לֹ֤א אוּכַל֙ לִ֔י פֶּן־ אַשְׁחִ֖ית אֶת־ נַחֲלָתִ֑י גְּאַל־ לְךָ֤ אַתָּה֙ אֶת־ גְּאֻלָּתִ֔י כִּ֥י לֹא־ אוּכַ֖ל לִגְאֹֽל׃

KJV ⁷ Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.

LSG ⁷ Autrefois en Israël, pour valider une affaire quelconque relative à un rachat ou à un échange, l'un ôtait son soulier et le donnait à l'autre: cela servait de témoignage en Israël.

VULC ⁷ Hic autem erat mos antiquitus in Israël inter propinquos, ut siquando alter alteri suo juri cedebat, ut esset firma concessio, solvebat homo calceamentum suum, et dabat proximo suo : hoc erat testimonium cessionis in Israël.

WLC ⁷ וְזֹאת֩ לְפָנִ֨ים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל עַל־ הַגְּאוּלָּ֤ה וְעַל־ הַתְּמוּרָה֙ לְקַיֵּ֣ם כָּל־ דָּבָ֔ר שָׁלַ֥ף אִ֛ישׁ נַעֲל֖וֹ וְנָתַ֣ן לְרֵעֵ֑הוּ וְזֹ֥את הַתְּעוּדָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁸ Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

KJV ⁹ And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.

LSG ⁹ Alors Boaz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: Vous êtes témoins aujourd'hui que j'ai acquis de la main de Naomi tout ce qui appartenait à Élimélec, à Kiljon et à Machlon,

VULC ⁹ At ille majoribus natu, et universo populo : Testes vos, inquit, estis hodie, quod possederim omnia quæ fuerunt Elimelech, et Chelion, et Mahalon, tradente Noëmi ;

KJV ¹⁰ Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.

KJV ¹¹ And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

LSG ¹¹ Tout le peuple qui était à la porte et les anciens dirent: Nous en sommes témoins ! Que l'Éternel rende la femme qui entre dans ta maison semblable à Rachel et à Léa, qui toutes les deux ont bâti la maison d'Israël ! Manifeste ta force dans Éphrata, et fais-toi un nom dans Bethléhem !

VULC ¹¹ Respondit omnis populus, qui erat in porta, et majores natu : Nos testes sumus : faciat Dominus hanc mulierem, quæ ingreditur domum tuam, sicut Rachel et Liam, quæ ædificaverunt domum Israël : ut sit exemplum virtutis in Ephratha, et habeat celebre nomen in Bethlehem :

KJV ¹² And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

LSG ¹² Puisse la postérité que l'Éternel te donnera par cette jeune femme rendre ta maison semblable à la maison de Pérets, qui fut enfanté à Juda par Tamar !

VULC ¹² fiatque domus tua sicut domus Phares, quem Thamar peperit Judæ, de semine quod tibi dederit Dominus ex hac puella.

WLC ¹² וִיהִ֤י בֵֽיתְךָ֙ כְּבֵ֣ית פֶּ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ יָלְדָ֥ה תָמָ֖ר לִֽיהוּדָ֑ה מִן־ הַזֶּ֗רַע אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִתֵּ֤ן יְהוָה֙ לְךָ֔ מִן־ הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃

KJV ¹³ So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

KJV ¹⁴ And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.

LSG ¹⁴ Les femmes dirent à Naomi: Béni soit l'Éternel, qui ne t'a point laissé manquer aujourd'hui d'un homme ayant droit de rachat, et dont le nom sera célébré en Israël !

KJV ¹⁵ And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

LSG ¹⁵ Cet enfant restaurera ton âme, et sera le soutien de ta vieillesse ; car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime, l'a enfanté, elle qui vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils.

KJV ¹⁷ And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

LSG ¹⁷ Les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, en disant: Un fils est né à Naomi ! Et elles l'appelèrent Obed. Ce fut le père d'Isaï père de David.
