DRB ² Et Jézabel envoya un messager à Élie, disant : Ainsi [me] fassent les dieux, et ainsi ils y ajoutent, si demain, à cette heure, je ne mets ton âme* comme l'âme de l'un d'eux !

KJV ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

DRB ³ Et voyant cela, il se leva, et s'en alla pour sa vie, et vint à Beër-Shéba, qui appartient à Juda, et il y laissa son jeune homme.

KJV ³ And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

MAR ³ Et [Elie] voyant cela se leva, et s'en alla comme son coeur lui disait. Il s'en vint à Beersebah, qui appartient à Juda ; et il laissa là son serviteur.

DRB ⁴ Et il s'en alla, lui, dans le désert, le chemin d'un jour, et vint et s'assit sous un genêt ; et il demanda la mort pour son âme, et dit : C'est assez ! maintenant, Éternel, prends mon âme, car je ne suis pas meilleur que mes pères.

KJV ⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

MAR ⁴ Mais lui s'en alla au désert, le chemin d'un jour, et y étant venu il s'assit sous un genêt, et demanda que Dieu retirât son âme, et dit : C'est assez, ô Eternel ! prends maintenant mon âme ; car je ne suis pas meilleur que mes pères.

DRB ⁶ Et il regarda, et voici, à son chevet, un gâteau cuit sur les pierres chaudes, et une cruche d'eau ; et il mangea et but, et se recoucha.

KJV ⁶ And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

MAR ⁶ Et il regarda, et voici à son chevet un gâteau cuit aux charbons, et une fiole d'eau. Il mangea donc et but, et se recoucha.

DRB ⁷ Et l'ange de l'Éternel revint une seconde fois, et le toucha, et dit : Lève-toi, mange, car le chemin est trop long pour toi.

KJV ⁷ And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

KJV ⁸ And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

MAR ⁸ Il se leva donc, et mangea et but ; puis avec la force que lui donna ce repas il marcha quarante jours et quarante nuits, jusqu'à Horeb, la montagne de Dieu.

DRB ⁹ Et là, il entra dans la caverne, et y passa la nuit. Et voici, la parole de l'Éternel vint à lui et lui dit : Que fais-tu ici, Élie ?

KJV ⁹ And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

MAR ⁹ Et là il entra dans une caverne, et y passa la nuit. Ensuite voilà, la parole de l'Eternel lui [fut adressée], et [l'Eternel] lui dit : Quelle affaire as-tu ici, Elie ?

DRB ¹⁰ Et il dit : J'ai été très jaloux pour l'Éternel, le Dieu des armées ; car les fils d'Israël ont abandonné ton alliance ; ils ont renversé tes autels et ils ont tué tes prophètes par l'épée, et je suis resté, moi seul, et ils cherchent ma vie pour me l'ôter.

KJV ¹⁰ And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

MAR ¹⁰ Et il répondit : J'ai été extrêmement ému à jalousie pour l'Eternel le Dieu des armées, parce que les enfants d'Israël ont abandonné ton alliance ; ils ont démoli tes autels, ils ont tué tes Prophètes avec l'épée, je suis resté moi seul, et ils cherchent ma vie pour me l'ôter.

DRB ¹¹ Et il dit : Sors, et tiens-toi sur la montagne devant l'Éternel. Et voici, l'Éternel passa, et devant l'Éternel un grand vent impétueux déchirait les montagnes et brisait les rochers : l'Éternel n'était pas dans le vent. Et après le vent, un tremblement de terre : l'Éternel n'était pas dans le tremblement de terre.

KJV ¹¹ And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

MAR ¹¹ Mais il lui dit : Sors, et tiens-toi sur la montagne devant l'Eternel. Et voici, l'Eternel passait, et un grand vent impétueux, qui fendait les montagnes, et brisait les rochers, allait devant l'Eternel ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce vent. Après le vent [se fit] un tremblement ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce tremblement.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר צֵ֣א וְעָמַדְתָּ֣ בָהָר֮ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָה֒ וְהִנֵּ֧ה יְהוָ֣ה עֹבֵ֗ר וְר֣וּחַ גְּדוֹלָ֡ה וְחָזָ֞ק מְפָרֵק֩ הָרִ֨ים וּמְשַׁבֵּ֤ר סְלָעִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה לֹ֥א בָר֖וּחַ יְהוָ֑ה וְאַחַ֤ר הָר֨וּחַ רַ֔עַשׁ לֹ֥א בָרַ֖עַשׁ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹² Et après le tremblement de terre, du feu : l'Éternel n'était pas dans le feu. Et après le feu, une voix douce, subtile.

KJV ¹² And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

MAR ¹² Après le tremblement venait un feu ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce feu. Après le feu venait un son doux et subtil.

WLC ¹² וְאַחַ֤ר הָרַ֙עַשׁ֙ אֵ֔שׁ לֹ֥א בָאֵ֖שׁ יְהוָ֑ה וְאַחַ֣ר הָאֵ֔שׁ ק֖וֹל דְּמָמָ֥ה דַקָּֽה׃

DRB ¹³ Et il arriva, quand Élie l'entendit, qu'il enveloppa son visage dans son manteau, et sortit et se tint à l'entrée de la caverne. Et voici, une voix lui [parla], et dit : Que fais-tu ici, Élie ?

KJV ¹³ And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

DRB ¹⁵ Et l'Éternel lui dit : Va, retourne par ton chemin, vers le désert de Damas, et quand tu seras arrivé, tu oindras Hazaël pour qu'il soit roi sur la Syrie ;

KJV ¹⁵ And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

MAR ¹⁵ Mais l'Eternel lui dit : Va, retourne-t'en par ton chemin vers le désert de Damas, et quand tu seras arrivé tu oindras Hazaël pour Roi sur la Syrie.

DRB ¹⁶ et Jéhu, fils de Nimshi, tu l'oindras pour qu'il soit roi sur Israël, et tu oindras Élisée, fils de Shaphath, d'Abel-Mehola, pour qu'il soit prophète à ta place.

KJV ¹⁶ And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

MAR ¹⁶ Tu oindras aussi Jéhu fils de Nimsi pour Roi sur Israël ; et tu oindras Elisée fils de Saphat, qui est d'Abel-méhola pour Prophète en ta place.

DRB ¹⁷ Et il arrivera que celui qui échappera à l'épée de Hazaël, Jéhu le fera mourir ; et celui qui échappera à l'épée de Jéhu, Élisée le fera mourir.

KJV ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

MAR ¹⁷ Et il arrivera que quiconque échappera de l'épée de Hazaël, Jéhu le fera mourir ; et quiconque échappera de l'épée de Jéhu, Elisée le fera mourir.

DRB ¹⁸ Mais je me suis réservé en Israël sept mille [hommes], tous les genoux qui n'ont pas fléchi devant Baal, et toutes les bouches qui ne l'ont pas baisé.

KJV ¹⁸ Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

MAR ¹⁸ Mais je me suis réservé sept mille hommes de reste en Israël, [savoir], tous ceux qui n'ont point fléchi leurs genoux devant Bahal, et dont la bouche ne l'a point baisé.

WLC ¹⁸ וְהִשְׁאַרְתִּ֥י בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שִׁבְעַ֣ת אֲלָפִ֑ים כָּל־ הַבִּרְכַּ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־ כָֽרְעוּ֙ לַבַּ֔עַל וְכָ֨ל־ הַפֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־ נָשַׁ֖ק לֽוֹ׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et il s'en alla de là, et trouva Élisée, fils de Shaphath ; et il labourait avec douze paires [de bœufs] devant lui, et lui était avec la douzième. Et Élie passa vers lui et jeta son manteau sur lui.

KJV ¹⁹ So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

MAR ¹⁹ Elie donc partit de là, et trouva Elisée fils de Saphat, qui labourait ayant douze paires [de bœufs] devant soi, et il était avec la douzième. Quand Elie eut passé vers lui, il jeta son manteau sur lui.

DRB ²⁰ Et il abandonna les bœufs, et courut après Élie, et dit : Que je baise, je te prie, mon père et ma mère, et je m'en irai après toi. Et il lui dit : Va, retourne ; car que t'ai-je fait ?

KJV ²⁰ And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

DRB ²¹ Et il s'en retourna d'auprès de lui, et prit la paire de bœufs, et en fit un sacrifice* ; et, avec le harnachement des bœufs, il fit cuire leur chair et la donna au peuple, et ils mangèrent ; et il se leva et s'en alla après Élie ; et il le servait.

KJV ²¹ And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

MAR ²¹ Il s'en retourna donc d'avec lui et prit une paire de boeufs, et les sacrifia ; et de l'attelage des boeufs il en bouillit la chair, et la donna au peuple, et ils mangèrent ; puis il se leva, et suivit Elie, et il le servait.
