KJV ¹ And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

KJV ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

KJV ³ And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

MAR ³ Et [Elie] voyant cela se leva, et s'en alla comme son coeur lui disait. Il s'en vint à Beersebah, qui appartient à Juda ; et il laissa là son serviteur.

S21 ³ Voyant cela, Elie se leva et partit pour sauver sa vie. Il arriva à Beer-Shéba, une ville qui appartient à Juda, et il y laissa son serviteur.

KJV ⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

MAR ⁴ Mais lui s'en alla au désert, le chemin d'un jour, et y étant venu il s'assit sous un genêt, et demanda que Dieu retirât son âme, et dit : C'est assez, ô Eternel ! prends maintenant mon âme ; car je ne suis pas meilleur que mes pères.

S21 ⁴ Quant à lui, il marcha toute une journée dans le désert, puis il s'assit sous un genêt et demanda la mort en disant: «C'est assez! Maintenant, Eternel, prends-moi la vie, car je ne suis pas meilleur que mes ancêtres.»

VULC ⁴ et perrexit in desertum, viam unius diei. Cumque venisset, et sederet subter unam juniperum, petivit animæ suæ ut moreretur, et ait : Sufficit mihi, Domine : tolle animam meam : neque enim melior sum quam patres mei.

KJV ⁵ And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

KJV ⁶ And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

VULC ⁶ Respexit, et ecce ad caput suum subcinericius panis, et vas aquæ : comedit ergo, et bibit, et rursum obdormivit.

KJV ⁷ And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

KJV ⁹ And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

S21 ⁹ Là, il entra dans la grotte et y passa la nuit. Or, la parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée: «Que fais-tu ici, Elie?»

VULC ⁹ Cumque venisset illuc, mansit in spelunca : et ecce sermo Domini ad eum, dixitque illi : Quid hic agis, Elia ?

WLC ⁹ וַיָּבֹא־ שָׁ֥ם אֶל־ הַמְּעָרָ֖ה וַיָּ֣לֶן שָׁ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ מַה־ לְּךָ֥ פֹ֖ה אֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃

KJV ¹⁰ And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

MAR ¹⁰ Et il répondit : J'ai été extrêmement ému à jalousie pour l'Eternel le Dieu des armées, parce que les enfants d'Israël ont abandonné ton alliance ; ils ont démoli tes autels, ils ont tué tes Prophètes avec l'épée, je suis resté moi seul, et ils cherchent ma vie pour me l'ôter.

S21 ¹⁰ Il répondit: «J'ai déployé tout mon zèle pour l'Eternel, le Dieu de l'univers. En effet, les Israélites ont abandonné ton alliance, *ils ont démoli tes autels et ont tué tes prophètes par l'épée. Je suis resté, moi seul, et ils cherchent à m'enlever la vie.»

VULC ¹⁰ At ille respondit : Zelo zelatus sum pro Domino Deo exercituum, quia dereliquerunt pactum tuum filii Israël : altaria tua destruxerunt, prophetas tuos occiderunt gladio, derelictus sum ego solus, et quærunt animam meam ut auferant eam.

KJV ¹¹ And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

MAR ¹¹ Mais il lui dit : Sors, et tiens-toi sur la montagne devant l'Eternel. Et voici, l'Eternel passait, et un grand vent impétueux, qui fendait les montagnes, et brisait les rochers, allait devant l'Eternel ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce vent. Après le vent [se fit] un tremblement ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce tremblement.

S21 ¹¹ L'Eternel dit: «Sors et tiens-toi sur la montagne devant l'Eternel, et l'Eternel va passer!» Devant l'Eternel, il y eut un vent fort et violent qui déchirait les montagnes et brisait les rochers; l'Eternel n'était pas dans le vent. Après le vent, il y eut un tremblement de terre; l'Eternel n'était pas dans le tremblement de terre.

VULC ¹¹ Et ait ei : Egredere, et sta in monte coram Domino : et ecce Dominus transit. Et spiritus grandis et fortis subvertens montes, et conterens petras, ante Dominum : non in spiritu Dominus. Et post spiritum commotio : non in commotione Dominus.

KJV ¹² And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

MAR ¹² Après le tremblement venait un feu ; mais l'Eternel n'était point dans ce feu. Après le feu venait un son doux et subtil.

S21 ¹² Après le tremblement de terre, il y eut un feu; l'Eternel n'était pas dans le feu. Après le feu, il y eut un murmure doux et léger.

VULC ¹² Et post commotionem ignis : non in igne Dominus. Et post ignem sibilus auræ tenuis.

KJV ¹³ And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

S21 ¹³ Quand il l'entendit, Elie s'enveloppa le visage de son manteau, sortit et se tint à l'entrée de la grotte. Et voici qu'une voix lui fit entendre ces paroles: «Que fais-tu ici, Elie?»

KJV ¹⁵ And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

MAR ¹⁵ Mais l'Eternel lui dit : Va, retourne-t'en par ton chemin vers le désert de Damas, et quand tu seras arrivé tu oindras Hazaël pour Roi sur la Syrie.

S21 ¹⁵ L'Eternel lui dit: «Vas-y, poursuis ton chemin dans le désert jusqu'à Damas. Une fois arrivé là-bas, tu consacreras par onction Hazaël comme roi de Syrie.

VULC ¹⁵ Et ait Dominus ad eum : Vade, et revertere in viam tuam per desertum in Damascum : cumque perveneris illuc, unges Hazaël regem super Syriam,

WLC ¹⁵ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו לֵ֛ךְ שׁ֥וּב לְדַרְכְּךָ֖ מִדְבַּ֣רָה דַמָּ֑שֶׂק וּבָ֗אתָ וּמָשַׁחְתָּ֧ אֶת־ חֲזָאֵ֛ל לְמֶ֖לֶךְ עַל־ אֲרָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁶ And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

MAR ¹⁶ Tu oindras aussi Jéhu fils de Nimsi pour Roi sur Israël ; et tu oindras Elisée fils de Saphat, qui est d'Abel-méhola pour Prophète en ta place.

S21 ¹⁶ Tu consacreras aussi par onction Jéhu, le petit-fils de Nimshi, comme roi d'Israël et tu consacreras par onction Elisée, le fils de Shaphath, d'Abel-Mehola, comme prophète à ta place.

VULC ¹⁶ et Jehu filium Namsi unges regem super Israël : Eliseum autem filium Saphat, qui est de Abelmehula, unges prophetam pro te.

KJV ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

MAR ¹⁷ Et il arrivera que quiconque échappera de l'épée de Hazaël, Jéhu le fera mourir ; et quiconque échappera de l'épée de Jéhu, Elisée le fera mourir.

S21 ¹⁷ Celui qui échappera à l'épée de Hazaël, Jéhu le fera mourir, et celui qui échappera à l'épée de Jéhu, Elisée le fera mourir.

VULC ¹⁷ Et erit : quicumque fugerit gladium Hazaël, occidet eum Jehu : et quicumque fugerit gladium Jehu, interficiet eum Eliseus.

KJV ¹⁸ Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

MAR ¹⁸ Mais je me suis réservé sept mille hommes de reste en Israël, [savoir], tous ceux qui n'ont point fléchi leurs genoux devant Bahal, et dont la bouche ne l'a point baisé.

S21 ¹⁸ Mais *je vais laisser en Israël 7000 hommes. Ce sont tous ceux qui n'ont pas plié les genoux devant Baal et dont la bouche ne l'a pas embrassé.»

VULC ¹⁸ Et derelinquam mihi in Israël septem millia virorum, quorum genua non sunt incurvata ante Baal, et omne os quod non adoravit eum osculans manus.

WLC ¹⁸ וְהִשְׁאַרְתִּ֥י בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שִׁבְעַ֣ת אֲלָפִ֑ים כָּל־ הַבִּרְכַּ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־ כָֽרְעוּ֙ לַבַּ֔עַל וְכָ֨ל־ הַפֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־ נָשַׁ֖ק לֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁹ So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

MAR ¹⁹ Elie donc partit de là, et trouva Elisée fils de Saphat, qui labourait ayant douze paires [de bœufs] devant soi, et il était avec la douzième. Quand Elie eut passé vers lui, il jeta son manteau sur lui.

S21 ¹⁹ Elie partit de là et il trouva Elisée, le fils de Shaphath, en train de labourer. Il y avait devant lui douze paires de bœufs et lui-même se tenait près de la douzième. Elie s'approcha de lui et jeta son manteau sur lui.

VULC ¹⁹ Profectus ergo inde Elias, reperit Eliseum filium Saphat, arantem in duodecim jugis boum. Et ipse in duodecim jugis boum arantibus unus erat : cumque venisset Elias ad eum, misit pallium suum super illum.

KJV ²⁰ And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

MAR ²⁰ Et [Elisée] laissa ses boeufs, et courut après Elie, et dit : Je te prie, que je baise mon père, et ma mère, et puis je te suivrai. Et il lui dit : Va, [et] retourne ; car que t'ai-je fait ?

S21 ²⁰ Elisée abandonna ses bœufs et courut après Elie. Il lui dit: «Laisse-moi embrasser mon père et ma mère et je te suivrai.» Elie lui répondit: «Vas-y et reviens. Pense en effet à ce que je t'ai fait.»

VULC ²⁰ Qui statim relictis bobus cucurrit post Eliam, et ait : Osculer, oro, patrem meum, et matrem meam, et sic sequar te. Dixitque ei : Vade, et revertere : quod enim meum erat, feci tibi.

WLC ²⁰ וַיַּעֲזֹ֣ב אֶת־ הַבָּקָ֗ר וַיָּ֙רָץ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י אֵֽלִיָּ֔הוּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֶשְּׁקָה־ נָּא֙ לְאָבִ֣י וּלְאִמִּ֔י וְאֵלְכָ֖ה אַחֲרֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ לֵ֣ךְ שׁ֔וּב כִּ֥י מֶה־ עָשִׂ֖יתִי לָֽךְ׃

KJV ²¹ And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

MAR ²¹ Il s'en retourna donc d'avec lui et prit une paire de boeufs, et les sacrifia ; et de l'attelage des boeufs il en bouillit la chair, et la donna au peuple, et ils mangèrent ; puis il se leva, et suivit Elie, et il le servait.

S21 ²¹ Après s'être éloigné d'Elie, Elisée prit une paire de bœufs, qu'il offrit en sacrifice. Avec le bois de leur attelage, il fit cuire leur viande et la donna à manger au peuple. Puis il se leva, suivit Elie et fut à son service.

VULC ²¹ Reversus autem ab eo, tulit par boum, et mactavit illud, et in aratro boum coxit carnes, et dedit populo, et comederunt : consurgensque abiit, et secutus est Eliam, et ministrabat ei.
