BCC ³ « Tu sais que David, mon père, n'a pu bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, son Dieu, à cause des guerres dont ses ennemis l'ont entouré, jusqu'à ce que Yahweh les eût mis sous la plante de ses pieds.

KJV ³ Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

VULC ³ Tu scis voluntatem David patris mei, et quia non potuerit ædificare domum nomini Domini Dei sui propter bella imminentia per circuitum, donec daret Dominus eos sub vestigio pedum ejus.

BCC ⁴ Maintenant, Yahweh, mon Dieu m'a donné du repos de tous côtés ; il n'y a plus d'adversaire, plus d'affaire fâcheuse.

KJV ⁴ But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

BCC ⁵ Et voici que je pense à bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, mon Dieu, comme Yahweh l'a déclaré à David, mon père, en disant : C'est ton fils, que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.

BCC ⁶ Et maintenant, ordonne que l'on coupe pour moi des cèdres sur le Liban. Mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs, et je te donnerai pour le salaire de tes serviteurs tout ce que tu diras : car tu sais qu'il n'y a personne parmi nous qui s'entende à couper le bois comme les Sidoniens. »

KJV ⁶ Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

VULC ⁶ Præcipe igitur ut præcidant mihi servi tui cedros de Libano, et servi mei sint cum servis tuis : mercedem autem servorum tuorum dabo tibi quamcumque petieris : scis enim quomodo non est in populo meo vir qui noverit ligna cædere sicut Sidonii.

BCC ⁷ Lorsque Hiram entendit les paroles de Salomon, il eut une grande joie et il dit : « Béni soit aujourd'hui Yahweh qui a donné à David un fils sage pour régner sur ce grand peuple ! »

KJV ⁷ And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

BCC ⁸ Et Hiram envoya dire à Salomon : « J'ai entendu ce que tu m'as envoyé dire ; je ferai ce que tu désires au sujet des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès.

KJV ⁸ And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

VULC ⁸ Et misit Hiram ad Salomonem, dicens : Audivi quæcumque mandasti mihi : ego faciam omnem voluntatem tuam in lignis cedrinis et abiegnis.

BCC ⁹ Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer, et je les ferai flotter par mer jusqu'au lieu que tu m'enverras dire ; là, je les ferai délier, et tu les prendras. Et toi, tu accompliras mon désir, en fournissant les vivres à ma maison. »

KJV ⁹ My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

BCC ¹⁰ Hiram donnait à Salomon des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès autant qu'il en voulait ;

KJV ¹⁰ So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

VULC ¹⁰ Itaque Hiram dabat Salomoni ligna cedrina, et ligna abiegna, juxta omnem voluntatem ejus.

BCC ¹¹ et Salomon donnait à Hiram vingt mille cors de froment pour l'entretien de sa maison, et vingt cors d'huile d'olives broyées. Voilà ce que Salomon livrait chaque année à Hiram.

KJV ¹¹ And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

BCC ¹² Et Yahweh donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il le lui avait promis ; et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent alliance ensemble.

KJV ¹² And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

VULC ¹² Dedit quoque Dominus sapientiam Salomoni, sicut locutus est ei : et erat pax inter Hiram et Salomonem, et percusserunt ambo fœdus.

BCC ¹³ Le roi Salomon leva parmi tous les Israélites des hommes de corvée, et les hommes de corvée étaient au nombre de trente mille.

KJV ¹³ And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

VULC ¹³ Elegitque rex Salomon operarios de omni Israël, et erat indictio triginta millia virorum.

BCC ¹⁴ Il les envoyait au Liban, dix mille par mois alternativement ; ils étaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois chez eux ; Adoniram était préposé sur les hommes de corvée.

KJV ¹⁴ And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

VULC ¹⁴ Mittebatque eos in Libanum, decem millia per menses singulos vicissim, ita ut duobus mensibus essent in domibus suis : et Adoniram erat super hujuscemodi indictione.

BCC ¹⁵ Salomon avait encore soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient les pierres dans la montagne,

KJV ¹⁵ And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

VULC ¹⁵ Fueruntque Salomoni septuaginta millia eorum qui onera portabant, et octoginta millia latomorum in monte,

BCC ¹⁶ sans compter les surintendants préposés aux travaux par Salomon, au nombre de trois mille trois cents ; ils dirigeaient le peuple qui travaillait aux entreprises.

KJV ¹⁶ Beside the chief of Solomon's officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

BCC ¹⁷ Le roi ordonna d'extraire de grandes pierres, pierres de choix, pour établir en pierres de taille les fondements de la maison.

KJV ¹⁷ And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

BCC ¹⁸ Les maçons de Salomon et les maçons de Hiram, et les Gibliens, taillèrent et préparèrent les bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.

KJV ¹⁸ And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

WLC ²² וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח חִירָם֙ אֶל־ שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה לֵאמֹ֔ר שָׁמַ֕עְתִּי אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־ שָׁלַ֖חְתָּ אֵלָ֑י אֲנִ֤י אֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֶת־ כָּל־ חֶפְצְךָ֔ בַּעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִ֖ים וּבַעֲצֵ֥י בְרוֹשִֽׁים׃

WLC ²³ עֲ֠בָדַי יֹרִ֨דוּ מִן־ הַלְּבָנ֜וֹן יָ֗מָּה וַ֠אֲנִי אֲשִׂימֵ֨ם דֹּבְר֤וֹת בַּיָּם֙ עַֽד־ הַמָּק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־ תִּשְׁלַ֥ח אֵלַ֛י וְנִפַּצְתִּ֥ים שָׁ֖ם וְאַתָּ֣ה תִשָּׂ֑א וְאַתָּה֙ תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה אֶת־ חֶפְצִ֔י לָתֵ֖ת לֶ֥חֶם בֵּיתִֽי׃

WLC ²⁴ וַיְהִ֨י חִיר֜וֹם נֹתֵ֣ן לִשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה עֲצֵ֧י אֲרָזִ֛ים וַעֲצֵ֥י בְרוֹשִׁ֖ים כָּל־ חֶפְצֽוֹ׃

WLC ²⁵ וּשְׁלֹמֹה֩ נָתַ֨ן לְחִירָ֜ם עֶשְׂרִים֩ אֶ֨לֶף כֹּ֤ר חִטִּים֙ מַכֹּ֣לֶת לְבֵית֔וֹ וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים כֹּ֖ר שֶׁ֣מֶן כָּתִ֑ית כֹּֽה־ יִתֵּ֧ן שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה לְחִירָ֖ם שָׁנָ֥ה בְשָׁנָֽה׃

WLC ²⁶ וַיהוָ֗ה נָתַ֤ן חָכְמָה֙ לִשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּר־ ל֑וֹ וַיְהִ֣י שָׁלֹ֗ם בֵּ֤ין חִירָם֙ וּבֵ֣ין שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה וַיִּכְרְת֥וּ בְרִ֖ית שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃

WLC ²⁷ וַיַּ֨עַל הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה מַ֖ס מִכָּל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיְהִ֣י הַמַּ֔ס שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף אִֽישׁ׃

WLC ²⁸ וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם לְבָנ֗וֹנָה עֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֤ים בַּחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ חֲלִיפ֔וֹת חֹ֚דֶשׁ יִהְי֣וּ בַלְּבָנ֔וֹן שְׁנַ֥יִם חֳדָשִׁ֖ים בְּבֵית֑וֹ וַאֲדֹנִירָ֖ם עַל־ הַמַּֽס׃

WLC ²⁹ וַיְהִ֧י לִשְׁלֹמֹ֛ה שִׁבְעִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף נֹשֵׂ֣א סַבָּ֑ל וּשְׁמֹנִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף חֹצֵ֥ב בָּהָֽר׃

WLC ³⁰ לְ֠בַד מִשָּׂרֵ֨י הַנִּצָּבִ֤ים לִשְׁלֹמֹה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־ הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים וּשְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹת הָרֹדִ֣ים בָּעָ֔ם הָעֹשִׂ֖ים בַּמְּלָאכָֽה׃

WLC ³¹ וַיְצַ֣ו הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ וַיַּסִּעוּ֩ אֲבָנִ֨ים גְּדֹל֜וֹת אֲבָנִ֧ים יְקָר֛וֹת לְיַסֵּ֥ד הַבָּ֖יִת אַבְנֵ֥י גָזִֽית׃

WLC ³² וַֽיִּפְסְל֞וּ בֹּנֵ֧י שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה וּבֹנֵ֥י חִיר֖וֹם וְהַגִּבְלִ֑ים וַיָּכִ֛ינוּ הָעֵצִ֥ים וְהָאֲבָנִ֖ים לִבְנ֥וֹת הַבָּֽיִת׃
