BCC ² Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, ayant appris ce qui se passait, ‒ il était encore en Égypte, où il s'était enfui loin du roi Salomon, ‒ revint d'Égypte, et on l'envoya chercher.

KJV ² And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

WLC ² וַיְהִ֞י כִּשְׁמֹ֨עַ יָרָבְעָ֤ם בֶּן־ נְבָט֙ וְה֣וּא בְמִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּרַ֔ח מִפְּנֵ֖י שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיָּ֥שָׁב יָרָבְעָ֖ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

BCC ³ Alors Jéroboam et tout Israël vinrent et parlèrent à Roboam en ces termes :

KJV ³ And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

WLC ³ וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ וַיִּקְרְאוּ־ ל֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֥א יָרָבְעָ֖ם וְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ אֶל־ רְחַבְעָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃

BCC ⁴ "Ton père a rendu notre joug dur ; maintenant, allège la dure servitude que nous a imposée ton père et le joug pesant qu'il a mis sur nous ; et nous te servirons."

KJV ⁴ Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

WLC ⁴ אָבִ֖יךָ הִקְשָׁ֣ה אֶת־ עֻלֵּ֑נוּ וְעַתָּ֡ה הָקֵל֩ מֵעֲבֹדַ֨ת אָבִ֜יךָ הַקָּשָׁ֗ה וּמֵעֻלּ֧וֹ הַכָּבֵ֛ד אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥ן עָלֵ֖ינוּ וְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃

BCC ⁵ Il leur dit : "Revenez vers moi dans trois jours." Et le peuple s'en alla.

KJV ⁵ And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם ע֛וֹד שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים וְשׁ֣וּבוּ אֵלָ֑י וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ הָעָֽם׃

BCC ⁶ Le roi Roboam consulta les vieillards qui s'étaient tenus auprès de Salomon, son père, pendant sa vie, en disant : "Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple ?"

KJV ⁶ And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

WLC ⁶ וַיִּוָּעַ֞ץ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם אֶת־ הַזְּקֵנִים֙ אֲשֶׁר־ הָי֣וּ עֹֽמְדִ֗ים לִפְנֵי֙ שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה אָבִ֔יו בִּֽהְיֹת֥וֹ חַ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר אֵ֚יךְ אַתֶּ֣ם נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים לְהָשִׁ֥יב לָֽעָם־ הַזֶּ֖ה דָּבָֽר׃

BCC ⁷ Ils lui parlèrent en disant : "Si tu es bon envers ce peuple, si tu les reçois avec faveur et si tu leur adresses des paroles bienveillantes, ils seront pour toujours tes serviteurs."

KJV ⁷ And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

WLC ⁷ וַיְדַבְּר֨וּ אֵלָ֜יו לֵאמֹ֗ר אִם־ תִּֽהְיֶ֨ה לְט֜וֹב לְהָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ וּרְצִיתָ֔ם וְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ אֲלֵהֶ֖ם דְּבָרִ֣ים טוֹבִ֑ים וְהָי֥וּ לְךָ֛ עֲבָדִ֖ים כָּל־ הַיָּמִֽים׃

BCC ⁸ Mais Roboam laissa le conseil que lui donnaient les vieillards, et il consulta les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui et qui se tenaient devant lui.

KJV ⁸ But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

WLC ⁸ וַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛ב אֶת־ עֲצַ֥ת הַזְּקֵנִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְעָצֻ֑הוּ וַיִּוָּעַ֗ץ אֶת־ הַיְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר גָּדְל֣וּ אִתּ֔וֹ הָעֹמְדִ֖ים לְפָנָֽיו׃

BCC ⁹ Il leur dit : "Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple qui me tient ce langage : Allège le joug que nous a imposé ton père ?"

KJV ⁹ And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

WLC ⁹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם מָ֚ה אַתֶּ֣ם נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים וְנָשִׁ֥יב דָּבָ֖ר אֶת־ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבְּר֤וּ אֵלַי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הָקֵל֙ מִן־ הָעֹ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥ן אָבִ֖יךָ עָלֵֽינוּ׃

BCC ¹⁰ Les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui lui répondirent en disant : "Tu parleras ainsi à ce peuple qui t'a tenu ce langage : Ton père a rendu notre joug pesant ; toi, allège-le-nous ! Tu leur parleras ainsi :

KJV ¹⁰ And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיְדַבְּר֣וּ אִתּ֗וֹ הַיְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר גָּדְל֣וּ אִתּוֹ֮ לֵאמֹר֒ כֹּֽה־ תֹאמַ֡ר לָעָם֩ אֲשֶׁר־ דִּבְּר֨וּ אֵלֶ֜יךָ לֵאמֹ֗ר אָבִ֙יךָ֙ הִכְבִּ֣יד אֶת־ עֻלֵּ֔נוּ וְאַתָּ֖ה הָקֵ֣ל מֵעָלֵ֑ינוּ כֹּ֚ה תֹּאמַ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם קָֽטָנִּ֥י עָבָ֖ה מִמָּתְנֵ֥י אָבִֽי׃

BCC ¹¹ Mon petit doigt est plus gros que les reins de mon père. Eh bien ! mon père vous a chargés d'un joug pesant, et moi je rendrai votre joug plus pesant encore ; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions."

KJV ¹¹ For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

WLC ¹¹ וְעַתָּ֗ה אָבִי֙ הֶעְמִ֤יס עֲלֵיכֶם֙ עֹ֣ל כָּבֵ֔ד וַאֲנִ֖י אֹסִ֣יף עַֽל־ עֻלְּכֶ֑ם אָבִ֗י יִסַּ֤ר אֶתְכֶם֙ בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים וַאֲנִ֖י בָּֽעֲקְרַבִּֽים׃

BCC ¹² Jéroboam et tout le peuple vinrent auprès de Roboam le troisième jour, selon que le roi avait dit : "Revenez vers moi dans trois jours."

KJV ¹² So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

BCC ¹³ Le roi leur répondit durement. Laissant le conseil des vieillards,

KJV ¹³ And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

WLC ¹³ וַיַּעֲנֵ֥ם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ קָשָׁ֑ה וַֽיַּעֲזֹב֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֔ם אֵ֖ת עֲצַ֥ת הַזְּקֵנִֽים׃

BCC ¹⁴ le roi Roboam leur parla selon le conseil des jeunes gens, en ces termes : "Mon père a rendu votre joug pesant, et moi je vous le rendrai plus pesant encore ; mon père vous a châtiés avec des fouets, et moi je vous châtierai avec des scorpions."

KJV ¹⁴ And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם כַּעֲצַ֤ת הַיְלָדִים֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אַכְבִּיד֙ אֶֽת־ עֻלְּכֶ֔ם וַאֲנִ֖י אֹסִ֣יף עָלָ֑יו אָבִ֗י יִסַּ֤ר אֶתְכֶם֙ בַּשּׁוֹטִ֔ים וַאֲנִ֖י בָּעֲקְרַבִּֽים׃

BCC ¹⁵ Le roi n'écouta donc pas le peuple, car tel était le procédé de Dieu pour accomplir la parole que Yahweh avait dite par Ahias de Silo à Jéroboam, fils de Nabat.

KJV ¹⁵ So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

WLC ¹⁵ וְלֹֽא־ שָׁמַ֥ע הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־ הָעָ֑ם כִּֽי־ הָיְתָ֤ה נְסִבָּה֙ מֵעִ֣ם הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְמַעַן֩ הָקִ֨ים יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־ דְּבָר֗וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר דִּבֶּר֙ בְּיַד֙ אֲחִיָּ֣הוּ הַשִּֽׁלוֹנִ֔י אֶל־ יָרָבְעָ֖ם בֶּן־ נְבָֽט׃

BCC ¹⁶ Lorsque tout Israël vit que le roi ne l'écoutait pas, le peuple répondit au roi en ces termes : "Quelle part avons-nous avec David ? Nous n'avons point d'héritage avec le fils d'Isaï. Chacun à ses tentes, Israël. Quant à toi, pourvois à ta maison, David !" Et tout Israël s'en alla dans ses tentes.

KJV ¹⁶ And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

WLC ¹⁶ וְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כִּ֠י לֹא־ שָׁמַ֣ע הַמֶּלֶךְ֮ לָהֶם֒ וַיָּשִׁ֣יבוּ הָעָ֣ם אֶת־ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ׀ לֵאמֹ֡ר מַה־ לָּנוּ֩ חֵ֨לֶק בְּדָוִ֜יד וְלֹֽא־ נַחֲלָ֣ה בְּבֶן־ יִשַׁ֗י אִ֤ישׁ לְאֹהָלֶ֙יךָ֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַתָּ֕ה רְאֵ֥ה בֵיתְךָ֖ דָּוִ֑יד וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ כָּל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְאֹהָלָֽיו׃

BCC ¹⁷ Ce fut seulement sur les enfants d'Israël qui habitaient les villes de Juda que régna Roboam.

KJV ¹⁷ But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

WLC ¹⁷ וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַיֹּֽשְׁבִ֖ים בְּעָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם רְחַבְעָֽם׃

BCC ¹⁸ Alors le roi Roboam envoya Aduram, qui était préposé aux impôts ; mais Adoram fut lapidé par tout Israël, et il mourut. Et le roi Roboam se hâta de monter sur un char pour s'enfuir à Jérusalem.

KJV ¹⁸ Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם אֶת־ הֲדֹרָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־ הַמַּ֔ס וַיִּרְגְּמוּ־ ב֧וֹ בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶ֖בֶן וַיָּמֹ֑ת וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם הִתְאַמֵּץ֙ לַֽעֲל֣וֹת בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֔ה לָנ֖וּס יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

BCC ¹⁹ C'est ainsi qu'Israël se détacha de la maison de David jusqu'à ce jour.

KJV ¹⁹ And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיִּפְשְׁע֤וּ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּבֵ֣ית דָּוִ֔יד עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
