DRB ¹ Et Joab, fils de Tseruïa, s'aperçut que le cœur du roi était pour Absalom ;

KJV ¹ Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.

WLC ¹ וַיֵּ֖דַע יוֹאָ֣ב בֶּן־ צְרֻיָ֑ה כִּֽי־ לֵ֥ב הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַל־ אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

DRB ² et Joab envoya à Thekoa, et fit venir de là une femme habile, et il lui dit : Je te prie, fais semblant de mener deuil, et revêts-toi, je te prie, de vêtements de deuil, et ne t'oins pas d'huile, mais sois comme une femme qui mène deuil depuis longtemps pour un mort ;

KJV ² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

WLC ² וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יוֹאָב֙ תְּק֔וֹעָה וַיִּקַּ֥ח מִשָּׁ֖ם אִשָּׁ֣ה חֲכָמָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵ֠לֶיהָ הִֽתְאַבְּלִי־ נָ֞א וְלִבְשִׁי־ נָ֣א בִגְדֵי־ אֵ֗בֶל וְאַל־ תָּס֙וּכִי֙ שֶׁ֔מֶן וְהָיִ֕ית כְּאִשָּׁ֗ה זֶ֚ה יָמִ֣ים רַבִּ֔ים מִתְאַבֶּ֖לֶת עַל־ מֵֽת׃

DRB ³ et entre vers le roi, et parle-lui de cette manière. Et Joab lui mit les paroles dans la bouche.

KJV ³ And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

WLC ³ וּבָאת֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְדִבַּ֥רְתְּ אֵלָ֖יו כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיָּ֧שֶׂם יוֹאָ֛ב אֶת־ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים בְּפִֽיהָ׃

DRB ⁴ Et la femme thekohite parla au roi, et tomba sur son visage contre terre et se prosterna, et dit : Sauve-moi, ô roi !

KJV ⁴ And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.

WLC ⁴ וַ֠תֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁ֤ה הַתְּקֹעִית֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַתִּפֹּ֧ל עַל־ אַפֶּ֛יהָ אַ֖רְצָה וַתִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ וַתֹּ֖אמֶר הוֹשִׁ֥עָה הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

DRB ⁵ Et le roi lui dit : Qu'as-tu ? Et elle dit : Certainement, je suis une femme veuve, et mon mari est mort.

KJV ⁵ And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ לָ֥הּ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ מַה־ לָּ֑ךְ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר אֲבָ֛ל אִשָּֽׁה־ אַלְמָנָ֥ה אָ֖נִי וַיָּ֥מָת אִישִֽׁי׃

DRB ⁶ Et ta servante* avait deux fils, et ils se sont disputés tous deux dans les champs, et il n'y avait personne pour les séparer ; et l'un a frappé l'autre et l'a tué.

KJV ⁶ And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him.

WLC ⁶ וּלְשִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֙ שְׁנֵ֣י בָנִ֔ים וַיִּנָּצ֤וּ שְׁנֵיהֶם֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה וְאֵ֥ין מַצִּ֖יל בֵּֽינֵיהֶ֑ם וַיַּכּ֧וֹ הָאֶחָ֛ד אֶת־ הָאֶחָ֖ד וַיָּ֥מֶת אֹתֽוֹ׃

DRB ⁷ Et voici, toute la famille s'est élevée contre ta servante*, et ils ont dit : Livre celui qui a frappé son frère, afin que nous le mettions à mort, à cause de la vie de son frère qu'il a tué, et que nous détruisions aussi l'héritier. Et ainsi ils éteindraient le tison qui me reste, afin de ne laisser à mon mari ni nom, ni reste, sur la face de la terre.

KJV ⁷ And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.

WLC ⁷ וְהִנֵּה֩ קָ֨מָה כָֽל־ הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֜ה עַל־ שִׁפְחָתֶ֗ךָ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ תְּנִ֣י ׀ אֶת־ מַכֵּ֣ה אָחִ֗יו וּנְמִתֵ֙הוּ֙ בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ אָחִיו֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָרָ֔ג וְנַשְׁמִ֖ידָה גַּ֣ם אֶת־ הַיּוֹרֵ֑שׁ וְכִבּ֗וּ אֶת־ גַּֽחַלְתִּי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁאָ֔רָה לְבִלְתִּ֧י לְאִישִׁ֛י שֵׁ֥ם וּשְׁאֵרִ֖ית עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

DRB ⁸ Et le roi dit à la femme : Va dans ta maison, et je donnerai mes ordres à ton égard.

KJV ⁸ And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה לְכִ֣י לְבֵיתֵ֑ךְ וַאֲנִ֖י אֲצַוֶּ֥ה עָלָֽיִךְ׃

DRB ⁹ Et la femme thekohite dit au roi : Ô roi, mon seigneur ! que l'iniquité soit sur moi et sur la maison de mon père, et que le roi et son trône en soient innocents.

KJV ⁹ And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.

WLC ⁹ וַתֹּ֜אמֶר הָאִשָּׁ֤ה הַתְּקוֹעִית֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ עָלַ֞י אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ הֶעָוֺ֖ן וְעַל־ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑י וְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְ וְכִסְא֖וֹ נָקִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et le roi dit : Celui qui te parlera, amène-le-moi, et il ne te touchera plus.

KJV ¹⁰ And the king said, Whoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ הַֽמְדַבֵּ֤ר אֵלַ֙יִךְ֙ וַֽהֲבֵאת֣וֹ אֵלַ֔י וְלֹֽא־ יֹסִ֥יף ע֖וֹד לָגַ֥עַת בָּֽךְ׃

DRB ¹¹ Et elle dit : Je te prie, que le roi se souvienne de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, afin que le vengeur du sang ne multiplie pas la ruine, et qu'on ne détruise pas mon fils. Et il dit : L'Éternel est vivant, s'il tombe à terre un des cheveux de ton fils !

KJV ¹¹ Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

WLC ¹¹ וַתֹּאמֶר֩ יִזְכָּר־ נָ֨א הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ גֹּאֵ֤ל הַדָּם֙ לְשַׁחֵ֔ת וְלֹ֥א יַשְׁמִ֖ידוּ אֶת־ בְּנִ֑י וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ חַי־ יְהוָ֔ה אִם־ יִפֹּ֛ל מִשַּׂעֲרַ֥ת בְּנֵ֖ךְ אָֽרְצָה׃

DRB ¹² Et la femme dit : Je te prie, que ta servante* dise un mot au roi, mon seigneur. Et il dit : Parle.

KJV ¹² Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.

WLC ¹² וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה תְּדַבֶּר־ נָ֧א שִׁפְחָתְךָ֛ אֶל־ אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ דָּבָ֑ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר דַּבֵּֽרִי׃

DRB ¹³ Et la femme dit : Et pourquoi as-tu pensé ainsi contre le peuple de Dieu ? et le roi dit cette parole comme un [homme] coupable, le roi ne faisant point revenir celui qu'il a chassé.

KJV ¹³ And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king doth speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished.

WLC ¹³ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה וְלָ֧מָּה חָשַׁ֛בְתָּה כָּזֹ֖את עַל־ עַ֣ם אֱלֹהִ֑ים וּמִדַּבֵּ֨ר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ כְּאָשֵׁ֔ם לְבִלְתִּ֛י הָשִׁ֥יב הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶֽת־ נִדְּחֽוֹ׃

DRB ¹⁴ Car nous mourrons certainement, et nous sommes comme de l'eau versée sur la terre, qu'on ne peut recueillir. Et Dieu ne [lui] a point ôté la vie, mais il a la pensée que celui qui est chassé ne demeure plus chassé loin de lui.

KJV ¹⁴ For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּי־ מ֣וֹת נָמ֔וּת וְכַמַּ֙יִם֙ הַנִּגָּרִ֣ים אַ֔רְצָה אֲשֶׁ֖ר לֹ֣א יֵאָסֵ֑פוּ וְלֹֽא־ יִשָּׂ֤א אֱלֹהִים֙ נֶ֔פֶשׁ וְחָשַׁב֙ מַֽחֲשָׁב֔וֹת לְבִלְתִּ֛י יִדַּ֥ח מִמֶּ֖נּוּ נִדָּֽח׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et maintenant, si je suis venue dire cette parole au roi, mon seigneur, c'est parce que le peuple m'a fait peur ; et ta servante* a dit : Que je parle donc au roi, peut-être que le roi accomplira la parole de sa servante ;

KJV ¹⁵ Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid.

WLC ¹⁵ וְ֠עַתָּה אֲשֶׁר־ בָּ֜אתִי לְדַבֵּ֨ר אֶל־ הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ אֲדֹנִי֙ אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֥י יֵֽרְאֻ֖נִי הָעָ֑ם וַתֹּ֤אמֶר שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֙ אֲדַבְּרָה־ נָּ֣א אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אוּלַ֛י יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶת־ דְּבַ֥ר אֲמָתֽוֹ׃

DRB ¹⁶ car le roi écoutera, pour délivrer sa servante de la main de l'homme qui veut nous exterminer, moi et mon fils ensemble, de l'héritage de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁶ For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

WLC ¹⁶ כִּ֚י יִשְׁמַ֣ע הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְהַצִּ֥יל אֶת־ אֲמָת֖וֹ מִכַּ֣ף הָאִ֑ישׁ לְהַשְׁמִ֨יד אֹתִ֤י וְאֶת־ בְּנִי֙ יַ֔חַד מִֽנַּחֲלַ֖ת אֱלֹהִֽים׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et ta servante* a dit : Que la parole du roi, mon seigneur, nous apporte du repos ! car le roi, mon seigneur, est comme un ange de Dieu, pour entendre le bien et le mal ; et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, sera** avec toi !

KJV ¹⁷ Then thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.

WLC ¹⁷ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ שִׁפְחָ֣תְךָ֔ יִֽהְיֶה־ נָּ֛א דְּבַר־ אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לִמְנוּחָ֑ה כִּ֣י ׀ כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים כֵּ֣ן אֲדֹנִ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ לִשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ הַטּ֣וֹב וְהָרָ֔ע וַֽיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יְהִ֥י עִמָּֽךְ׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et le roi répondit, et dit à la femme : Je te prie, ne me cache pas la chose que je vais te demander. Et la femme dit : Que le roi, mon seigneur, parle, je te prie.

KJV ¹⁸ Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיַּ֣עַן הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־ הָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה אַל־ נָ֨א תְכַחֲדִ֤י מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ דָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י שֹׁאֵ֣ל אֹתָ֑ךְ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה יְדַבֶּר־ נָ֖א אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et le roi dit : La main de Joab n'est-elle pas avec toi dans tout ceci ? Et la femme répondit et dit : Ton âme est vivante, ô roi, mon seigneur, qu'on ne peut [s'écarter] à droite ou à gauche de tout ce que dit le roi, mon seigneur ; car ton serviteur Joab, lui, m'a commandé, et a mis toutes ces paroles dans la bouche de ta servante*.

KJV ¹⁹ And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid:

WLC ¹⁹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ הֲיַ֥ד יוֹאָ֛ב אִתָּ֖ךְ בְּכָל־ זֹ֑את וַתַּ֣עַן הָאִשָּׁ֣ה וַתֹּ֡אמֶר חֵֽי־ נַפְשְׁךָ֩ אֲדֹנִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אִם־ אִ֣שׁ ׀ לְהֵמִ֣ין וּלְהַשְׂמִ֗יל מִכֹּ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־ דִּבֶּר֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּֽי־ עַבְדְּךָ֤ יוֹאָב֙ ה֣וּא צִוָּ֔נִי וְה֗וּא שָׂ֚ם בְּפִ֣י שִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֔ אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

DRB ²⁰ C'est afin de donner une autre apparence à la chose, que ton serviteur Joab a fait cela ; et mon seigneur est sage comme la sagesse d'un ange de Dieu, pour savoir tout ce qui [se passe] sur la terre.

KJV ²⁰ To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

WLC ²⁰ לְבַעֲב֤וּר סַבֵּב֙ אֶת־ פְּנֵ֣י הַדָּבָ֔ר עָשָׂ֛ה עַבְדְּךָ֥ יוֹאָ֖ב אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַאדֹנִ֣י חָכָ֗ם כְּחָכְמַת֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים לָדַ֖עַת אֶֽת־ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ²¹ Et le roi dit à Joab : Voici, j'ai fait cela ; va, fais revenir le jeune homme Absalom.

KJV ²¹ And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל־ יוֹאָ֔ב הִנֵּה־ נָ֥א עָשִׂ֖יתִי אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וְלֵ֛ךְ הָשֵׁ֥ב אֶת־ הַנַּ֖עַר אֶת־ אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

DRB ²² Et Joab tomba sur sa face contre terre et se prosterna, et bénit le roi. Et Joab dit : Aujourd'hui ton serviteur connaît que j'ai trouvé faveur à tes yeux, ô roi, mon seigneur, parce que le roi a fait ce que son serviteur a dit.

KJV ²² And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant.

WLC ²² וַיִּפֹּל֩ יוֹאָ֨ב אֶל־ פָּנָ֥יו אַ֛רְצָה וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ אֶת־ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יוֹאָ֡ב הַיּוֹם֩ יָדַ֨ע עַבְדְּךָ֜ כִּי־ מָצָ֨אתִי חֵ֤ן בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֲשֶׁר־ עָשָׂ֥ה הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶת־ דְּבַ֥ר

DRB ²³ Et Joab se leva et s'en alla à Gueshur, et il ramena Absalom à Jérusalem. *

KJV ²³ So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

WLC ²³ וַיָּ֥קָם יוֹאָ֖ב וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ גְּשׁ֑וּרָה וַיָּבֵ֥א אֶת־ אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

DRB ²⁴ Et le roi dit : Qu'il se retire dans sa maison, et qu'il ne voie point ma face. Et Absalom se retira dans sa maison et ne vit pas la face du roi.

KJV ²⁴ And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.

WLC ²⁴ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ יִסֹּ֣ב אֶל־ בֵּית֔וֹ וּפָנַ֖י לֹ֣א יִרְאֶ֑ה וַיִּסֹּ֤ב אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֶל־ בֵּית֔וֹ וּפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לֹ֥א רָאָֽה׃
