Comme les ouragans qui, dans le midi, se précipitent du désert, il vient d'une terre redoutable.

KJV ¹ The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

WLC ¹ מַשָּׂ֖א מִדְבַּר־ יָ֑ם כְּסוּפ֤וֹת בַּנֶּ֙גֶב֙ לַֽחֲלֹ֔ף מִמִּדְבָּ֣ר בָּ֔א מֵאֶ֖רֶץ נוֹרָאָֽה׃

BAN ² Un spectacle cruel m'est apparu le perfide agit en perfide, et le ravageur ravage. Monte, Elam ! Assiège, Mède ! Je fais cesser tous les gémissements !

KJV ² A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

BAN ³ C'est pourquoi mes reins sont pleins de douleur ; des maux me saisissent comme des maux d'enfantement ; je me tords à l'entendre, je m'épouvante à le voir !

KJV ³ Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

VULC ³ Propterea repleti sunt lumbi mei dolore ;

BAN ⁴ Mon coeur s'égare, l'effroi me saisit ; le crépuscule que je désirais est devenu pour moi plein de terreurs.

KJV ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

BAN ⁵ On dresse la table, on fait le guet, on mange, on boit...

BAN ⁷ Et elle vit des cavaliers deux à deux sur des chevaux, des cavaliers sur des ânes, des cavaliers sur des chameaux. Et elle fit attention, grande attention.

KJV ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

BAN ⁹ voici venir de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux !
Et elle reprit et dit : Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, et toutes les statues de ses dieux, on les a brisées contre terre !

KJV ⁹ And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

BAN ¹² La sentinelle répond : Le matin vient, et la nuit aussi. Faites des questions, si vous en voulez faire ; revenez une autre fois !

BAN ¹⁴ Venez avec de l'eau à la rencontre de celui qui a soif, habitants du pays de Théma ; offrez du pain au fugitif !

BAN ¹⁷ Et des nombreux arcs des vaillants fils de Kédar, il ne restera que peu de chose ; car l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, a parlé.

KJV ¹⁷ And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.
