KJV ³ Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.

KJV ⁴ And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

MAR ⁴ Et ses frères voyant que leur père l'aimait plus qu'eux tous, le haïssaient, et ne pouvaient lui parler avec douceur.

VULC ⁴ Videntes autem fratres ejus quod a patre plus cunctis filiis amaretur, oderant eum, nec poterant ei quidquam pacifice loqui.

WLC ⁴ וַיִּרְא֣וּ אֶחָ֗יו כִּֽי־ אֹת֞וֹ אָהַ֤ב אֲבִיהֶם֙ מִכָּל־ אֶחָ֔יו וַֽיִּשְׂנְא֖וּ אֹת֑וֹ וְלֹ֥א יָכְל֖וּ דַּבְּר֥וֹ לְשָׁלֹֽם׃

KJV ⁵ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

MAR ⁵ Or Joseph songea un songe, lequel il récita à ses frères ; et ils le haïrent encore davantage.

VULC ⁵ Accidit quoque ut visum somnium referret fratribus suis : quæ causa majoris odii seminarium fuit.

WLC ⁵ וַיַּחֲלֹ֤ם יוֹסֵף֙ חֲל֔וֹם וַיַּגֵּ֖ד לְאֶחָ֑יו וַיּוֹסִ֥פוּ ע֖וֹד שְׂנֹ֥א אֹתֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁶ And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

MAR ⁶ Il leur dit donc : Ecoutez, je vous prie, le songe que j'ai songé.

VULC ⁶ Dixitque ad eos : Audite somnium meum quod vidi :

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם שִׁמְעוּ־ נָ֕א הַחֲל֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָלָֽמְתִּי׃

KJV ⁷ For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.

MAR ⁷ Voici, nous liions des gerbes au milieu d'un champ ; et voici, ma gerbe se leva, et se tint droite ; et voici, vos gerbes l'environnèrent, et se prosternèrent devant ma gerbe.

VULC ⁷ putabam nos ligare manipulos in agro : et quasi consurgere manipulum meum, et stare, vestrosque manipulos circumstantes adorare manipulum meum.

WLC ⁷ וְ֠הִנֵּה אֲנַ֜חְנוּ מְאַלְּמִ֤ים אֲלֻמִּים֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֛ה קָ֥מָה אֲלֻמָּתִ֖י וְגַם־ נִצָּ֑בָה וְהִנֵּ֤ה תְסֻבֶּ֙ינָה֙ אֲלֻמֹּ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם וַתִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖יןָ לַאֲלֻמָּתִֽי׃

KJV ⁸ And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

MAR ⁸ Alors ses frères lui dirent : Régnerais-tu en effet sur nous ? et dominerais-tu en effet sur nous ? Et ils le haïrent encore plus pour ses songes, et pour ses paroles.

VULC ⁸ Responderunt fratres ejus : Numquid rex noster eris ? aut subjiciemur ditioni tuæ ? Hæc ergo causa somniorum atque sermonum, invidiæ et odii fomitem ministravit.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֤אמְרוּ לוֹ֙ אֶחָ֔יו הֲמָלֹ֤ךְ תִּמְלֹךְ֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ אִם־ מָשׁ֥וֹל תִּמְשֹׁ֖ל בָּ֑נוּ וַיּוֹסִ֤פוּ עוֹד֙ שְׂנֹ֣א אֹת֔וֹ עַל־ חֲלֹמֹתָ֖יו וְעַל־ דְּבָרָֽיו׃

KJV ⁹ And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

MAR ⁹ Il songea encore un autre songe, et il le récita a ses frères, en disant : Voici, j'ai songé encore un songe, et voici, le soleil, et la lune, et onze étoiles se prosternaient devant moi.

VULC ⁹ Aliud quoque vidit somnium, quod narrans fratribus, ait : Vidi per somnium, quasi solem, et lunam, et stellas undecim adorare me.

WLC ⁹ וַיַּחֲלֹ֥ם עוֹד֙ חֲל֣וֹם אַחֵ֔ר וַיְסַפֵּ֥ר אֹת֖וֹ לְאֶחָ֑יו וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הִנֵּ֨ה חָלַ֤מְתִּֽי חֲלוֹם֙ ע֔וֹד וְהִנֵּ֧ה הַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ וְהַיָּרֵ֗חַ וְאַחַ֤ד עָשָׂר֙ כּֽוֹכָבִ֔ים מִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֖ים לִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁰ And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

MAR ¹⁰ Et quand il le récita à son père, et à ses frères, son père le reprit, et lui dit : Que veut dire ce songe que tu as songé ? Faudra-t-il que nous venions moi, et ta mère, et tes frères nous prosterner en terre devant toi ?

VULC ¹⁰ Quod cum patri suo, et fratribus retulisset, increpavit eum pater suus, et dixit : Quid sibi vult hoc somnium quod vidisti ? num ego et mater tua, et fratres tui adorabimus te super terram ?

WLC ¹⁰ וַיְסַפֵּ֣ר אֶל־ אָבִיו֮ וְאֶל־ אֶחָיו֒ וַיִּגְעַר־ בּ֣וֹ אָבִ֔יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ מָ֛ה הַחֲל֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָלָ֑מְתָּ הֲב֣וֹא נָב֗וֹא אֲנִי֙ וְאִמְּךָ֣ וְאַחֶ֔יךָ לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֥ת לְךָ֖ אָֽרְצָה׃

KJV ¹¹ And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

KJV ¹² And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.

MAR ¹² Or ses frères s'en allèrent paître les troupeaux de leur père en Sichem.

VULC ¹² Cumque fratres illius in pascendis gregibus patris morarentur in Sichem,

WLC ¹² וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ אֶחָ֑יו לִרְע֛וֹת אֶׄתׄ־ צֹ֥אן אֲבִיהֶ֖ם בִּשְׁכֶֽם׃

KJV ¹³ And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.

MAR ¹³ Et Israël dit à Joseph : Tes frères ne paissent-ils pas [les troupeaux] en Sichem ? Viens, que je t'envoie vers eux ; et il lui répondit : Me voici.

VULC ¹³ dixit ad eum Israël : Fratres tui pascunt oves in Sichimis : veni, mittam te ad eos. Quo respondente,

WLC ¹³ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶל־ יוֹסֵ֗ף הֲל֤וֹא אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ רֹעִ֣ים בִּשְׁכֶ֔ם לְכָ֖ה וְאֶשְׁלָחֲךָ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַיֹּ֥אמֶר ל֖וֹ הִנֵּֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁴ And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

MAR ¹⁴ Et il lui dit : Va maintenant, vois si tes frères se portent bien, et si les troupeaux [sont en bon état], et rapporte-le-moi. Ainsi il l'envoya de la vallée de Hébron, et il vint jusqu'en Sichem.

VULC ¹⁴ Præsto sum, ait ei : Vade, et vide si cuncta prospera sint erga fratres tuos, et pecora : et renuntia mihi quid agatur. Missus de valle Hebron, venit in Sichem :

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ לֶךְ־ נָ֨א רְאֵ֜ה אֶת־ שְׁל֤וֹם אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ וְאֶת־ שְׁל֣וֹם הַצֹּ֔אן וַהֲשִׁבֵ֖נִי דָּבָ֑ר וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֙הוּ֙ מֵעֵ֣מֶק חֶבְר֔וֹן וַיָּבֹ֖א שְׁכֶֽמָה׃

KJV ¹⁵ And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

MAR ¹⁵ Et un homme le trouva comme il était errant par les champs ; et cet homme lui demanda, et lui dit : Que cherches-tu ?

VULC ¹⁵ invenitque eum vir errantem in agro, et interrogavit quid quæreret.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּמְצָאֵ֣הוּ אִ֔ישׁ וְהִנֵּ֥ה תֹעֶ֖ה בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה וַיִּשְׁאָלֵ֧הוּ הָאִ֛ישׁ לֵאמֹ֖ר מַה־ תְּבַקֵּֽשׁ׃

KJV ¹⁶ And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.

MAR ¹⁶ Et il répondit : Je cherche mes frères ; je te prie, enseigne-moi où ils paissent.

VULC ¹⁶ At ille respondit : Fratres meos quæro : indica mihi ubi pascant greges.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אֶת־ אַחַ֖י אָנֹכִ֣י מְבַקֵּ֑שׁ הַגִּֽידָה־ נָּ֣א לִ֔י אֵיפֹ֖ה הֵ֥ם רֹעִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁷ And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

MAR ¹⁷ Et l'homme dit : Ils sont partis d'ici ; et j'ai entendu qu'ils disaient : Allons en Dothaïn. Joseph donc alla après ses frères, et les trouva en Dothaïn.

VULC ¹⁷ Dixitque ei vir : Recesserunt de loco isto : audivi autem eos dicentes : Eamus in Dothain. Perrexit ergo Joseph post fratres suos, et invenit eos in Dothain.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הָאִישׁ֙ נָסְע֣וּ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֤י שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ אֹֽמְרִ֔ים נֵלְכָ֖ה דֹּתָ֑יְנָה וַיֵּ֤לֶךְ יוֹסֵף֙ אַחַ֣ר אֶחָ֔יו וַיִּמְצָאֵ֖ם בְּדֹתָֽן׃

KJV ¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.

MAR ¹⁸ Et ils le virent de loin ; et avant qu'il approchât d'eux, ils complotèrent contre lui, pour le tuer.

VULC ¹⁸ Qui cum vidissent eum procul, antequam accederet ad eos, cogitaverunt illum occidere :

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּרְא֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ מֵרָחֹ֑ק וּבְטֶ֙רֶם֙ יִקְרַ֣ב אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּֽתְנַכְּל֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ לַהֲמִיתֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.

MAR ¹⁹ Et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : Voici, ce maître songeur vient.

VULC ¹⁹ et mutuo loquebantur : Ecce somniator venit :

WLC ¹⁹ וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל־ אָחִ֑יו הִנֵּ֗ה בַּ֛עַל הַחֲלֹמ֥וֹת הַלָּזֶ֖ה בָּֽא׃
