KJV ² And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

KJV ⁸ And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

MAR ⁸ Alors Juda dit à Onan : Viens vers la femme de ton frère, et prends-la pour femme, [comme étant son beau-frère], et suscite des enfants à ton frère.

BCC ⁹ Mais Onan savait que cette postérité ne serait pas à lui et, lorsqu'il allait vers la femme de son frère, il se souillait à terre afin de ne pas donner de postérité à son frère.

KJV ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

MAR ⁹ Mais Onan sachant que les enfants ne seraient pas à lui, se corrompait contre terre toutes les fois qu'il venait vers la femme de son frère, afin qu'il ne donnât pas des enfants à son frère.

BCC ¹⁰ Son action déplut au Seigneur, qui le fit aussi mourir.

KJV ¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

MAR ¹⁰ Et ce qu'il faisait déplut à l'Eternel, c'est pourquoi il le fit aussi mourir.

BCC ¹¹ Et Juda dit à Thamar, sa belle-fille « Demeure comme veuve dans la maison de ton père jusqu'à ce que Séla, mon fils, soit devenu grand. » Car il se disait : « Il ne faut pas que lui aussi meure comme ses frères. » Thamar s'en alla et demeura dans la maison de son père.

KJV ¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

MAR ¹¹ Et Juda dit à Tamar sa belle-fille : Demeure veuve en la maison de ton père, jusqu'à ce que Séla mon fils soit grand ; car il dit : Il faut prendre garde qu'il ne meure comme ses frères. Ainsi Tamar s'en alla, et demeura en la maison de son père.

BCC ¹² Après beaucoup de jours, la fille de Sué, femme de Juda, mourut. Lorsque Juda eut fini son deuil, il monta vers ceux qui tondaient ses brebis à Thamna, lui et son ami Hira, l'Odollamite.

KJV ¹² And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

MAR ¹² Et après plusieurs jours la fille de Suah, femme de Juda, mourut ; et Juda, s'étant consolé, monta vers les tondeurs de ses brebis à Timnath, avec Hira Hadullamite, son intime ami.

BCC ¹³ On en informa Thamar, en disant : « Voici ton beau-père qui monte à Thamna pour tondre ses brebis. »

KJV ¹³ And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

BCC ¹⁴ Alors elle ôta ses vêtements de veuve, se couvrit d'un voile, et, ainsi enveloppée, elle s'assit à l'entrée d'Énaïm, sur le chemin de Thamna, car elle voyait que Séla était devenu grand et qu'elle ne lui était pas donnée pour femme.

KJV ¹⁴ And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

MAR ¹⁴ Et elle ôta de dessus soi les habits de son veuvage, et se couvrit d'un voile, et s'en enveloppa, et s'assit en un carrefour qui [était] sur le chemin tirant vers Timnath ; parce qu'elle voyait que Séla était devenu grand, et qu'elle ne lui avait point été donnée pour femme.

BCC ¹⁵ Juda, l'ayant vue, la prit pour une femme de mauvaise vie ; car elle avait couvert son visage.

KJV ¹⁵ When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

MAR ¹⁵ Et quand Juda la vit, il s'imagina que c'était une prostituée ; car elle avait couvert son visage.

BCC ¹⁶ Il se dirigea de son côté, vers le chemin, et dit : « Laisse-moi aller vers toi. » Car il ignorait que ce fût sa belle-fille. Elle dit « Que me donneras-tu pour venir vers moi ? »

KJV ¹⁶ And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

MAR ¹⁶ Et il se détourna vers elle au chemin, et lui dit : Permets, je te prie, que je vienne vers toi ; car il ne savait pas que ce [fût] sa belle-fille. Et elle répondit : Que me donneras-tu afin que tu viennes vers moi ?

BCC ¹⁷ Il répondit : « Je t'enverrai un chevreau du troupeau. » Elle dit : « A condition que tu me donnes un gage jusqu'à ce que tu l'envoies. »

KJV ¹⁷ And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

BCC ¹⁸ Il dit : « Quel gage dois-je te donner ? » Elle dit « Ton anneau, ton cordon et ton bâton que tu tiens à la main. » Il les lui donna et alla vers elle, et elle devint enceinte de lui.

KJV ¹⁸ And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

MAR ¹⁸ Et il dit : Quel gage est-ce que je te donnerai ? Et elle répondit : Ton cachet, ton mouchoir, et ton bâton que tu as en ta main. Et il les lui donna ; et il vint vers elle, et elle conçut de lui.

KJV ¹⁹ And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

BCC ²⁰ Juda envoya le chevreau par son ami, l'Odollamite, pour retirer le gage des mains de cette femme ; mais il ne la trouva point.

KJV ²⁰ And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

MAR ²⁰ Et Juda envoya un chevreau d'entre les chèvres par l'Hadullamite son intime ami ; afin qu'il reprît le gage de la main de la femme ; mais il ne la trouva point.

BCC ²¹ Il interrogea les gens du lieu, en disant : « Où est cette prostituée qui se tenait à Énaïm au bord du chemin ? » Ils répondirent : « Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée. »

KJV ²¹ Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

MAR ²¹ Et il interrogea les hommes du lieu où elle avait été, en disant : Où [est] cette prostituée qui [était] dans le carrefour sur le chemin ? Et ils répondirent : Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.

BCC ²² Il revint donc vers Juda et dit : « Je ne l'ai point trouvée ; et même les gens du lieu ont dit : il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée. »

KJV ²² And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

MAR ²² Et il retourna à Juda, et lui dit : Je ne l'ai point trouvée ; et même les gens du lieu m'ont dit : Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.

BCC ²³ Juda dit : « Qu'elle garde son gage ; il ne faut pas qu'on se moque de nous. Voici, j'ai envoyé le chevreau promis, et tu ne l'as pas trouvée. »

KJV ²³ And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

MAR ²³ Et Juda dit : Qu'elle garde le [gage], de peur que nous ne soyons en mépris. Voici, j'ai envoyé ce chevreau, mais tu ne l'as point trouvée.

BCC ²⁴ Environ trois mois après, on vint dire à Juda : « Thamar, ta belle-fille, s'est prostituée, et même la voilà enceinte à la suite de ses prostitutions. » Juda dit « Faites-la sortir et qu'elle soit brûlée. »

KJV ²⁴ And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

MAR ²⁴ Or il arriva qu'environ trois mois [après] on fit un rapport à Juda, en disant : Tamar ta belle-fille a commis un adultère, et voici elle est même enceinte. Et Juda dit : Faites-la sortir, et qu'elle soit brûlée.

BCC ²⁵ Comme on l'emmenait dehors, elle envoya dire à son beau-père : « C'est de l'homme à qui ces objets appartiennent que je suis enceinte. Regarde bien, ajouta-t-elle, à qui sont cet anneau, ce cordon et ce bâton. » Juda les reconnut et dit :

KJV ²⁵ When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

MAR ²⁵ Et comme on la faisait sortir, elle envoya dire à son beau-père : Je suis enceinte de l'homme à qui ces choses appartiennent. Elle dit aussi : Reconnais, je te prie, à qui [est] ce cachet, ce mouchoir, et ce bâton.

BCC ²⁶ « Elle est plus juste que moi, puisque je ne l'ai pas donnée à Séla, mon fils. » Et il ne la connut plus.

KJV ²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

MAR ²⁶ Alors Juda les reconnut, et il dit : Elle est plus juste que moi ; parce que je ne l'ai point donnée à Séla, mon fils ; et il ne la connut plus.

BCC ²⁷ Quand elle fut au moment d'enfanter, voici, il y avait deux jumeaux dans son sein.

KJV ²⁷ And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

MAR ²⁷ Et comme elle fut sur le point d'accoucher, voici, deux jumeaux étaient dans son ventre ;

BCC ²⁸ Pendant l'accouchement, l'un d'eux étendit la main ; la sage-femme la prit et y attacha un fil écarlate, en disant : « C'est celui-ci qui est sorti le premier. »

KJV ²⁸ And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

MAR ²⁸ Et dans le temps qu'elle enfantait, [l'un d'eux] donna la main, et la sage-femme la prit, et lia sur sa main un fil d'écarlate, en disant : Celui-ci sort le premier.

BCC ²⁹ Mais il retira sa main, et voici que son frère sortit. « Quelle brèche tu as faite ! dit la sage-femme ; la brèche soit sur toi ! » Et on le nomma Pharès.

KJV ²⁹ And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

MAR ²⁹ Mais comme il eut retiré sa main, voici, son frère sortit ; et elle dit : Quelle ouverture t'es-tu faite ! L'ouverture soit sur toi ; et on le nomma Pharez.

KJV ³⁰ And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
