KJV ² He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

S21 ² Il pousse comme une fleur, puis il se flétrit;
il s'enfuit comme une ombre, sans résister.

WLC ² כְּצִ֣יץ יָ֭צָא וַיִּמָּ֑ל וַיִּבְרַ֥ח כַּ֝צֵּ֗ל וְלֹ֣א יַעֲמֽוֹד׃

KJV ³ And doth thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

S21 ³ Pourtant c'est sur lui que tu as l'œil ouvert,
et tu me fais aller en justice avec toi!

WLC ³ אַף־ עַל־ זֶ֭ה פָּקַ֣חְתָּ עֵינֶ֑ךָ וְאֹ֘תִ֤י תָבִ֖יא בְמִשְׁפָּ֣ט עִמָּֽךְ׃

KJV ⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

S21 ⁴ Qui fera sortir le pur de l'impur?
Personne.

WLC ⁴ מִֽי־ יִתֵּ֣ן טָ֭הוֹר מִטָּמֵ֗א לֹ֣א אֶחָֽד׃

KJV ⁵ Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

S21 ⁵ »Si les jours de l'homme sont fixés, si tu as déterminé le nombre de ses mois,
si tu en as marqué les limites qu'il ne peut franchir,

WLC ⁵ אִ֥ם חֲרוּצִ֨ים ׀ יָמָ֗יו מִֽסְפַּר־ חֳדָשָׁ֥יו אִתָּ֑ךְ עָ֝שִׂ֗יתָ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲבֽוֹר׃

KJV ⁶ Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

S21 ⁶ détourne les regards de lui et accorde-lui du répit
pour qu'il ait au moins la joie du salarié à la fin de sa journée!

WLC ⁶ שְׁעֵ֣ה מֵעָלָ֣יו וְיֶחְדָּ֑ל עַד־ יִ֝רְצֶ֗ה כְּשָׂכִ֥יר יוֹמֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁷ For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

S21 ⁷ »En effet, pour un arbre il y a de l'espérance:
quand on le coupe, il repousse
et il produit encore des rejetons;

WLC ⁷ כִּ֤י יֵ֥שׁ לָעֵ֗ץ תִּ֫קְוָ֥ה אִֽם־ יִ֭כָּרֵת וְע֣וֹד יַחֲלִ֑יף וְ֝יֹֽנַקְתּ֗וֹ לֹ֣א תֶחְדָּֽל׃

KJV ⁸ Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

S21 ⁸ même si sa racine a vieilli dans la terre
et que son tronc meurt dans la poussière,

WLC ⁸ אִם־ יַזְקִ֣ין בָּאָ֣רֶץ שָׁרְשׁ֑וֹ וּ֝בֶעָפָ֗ר יָמ֥וּת גִּזְעֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁹ Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

S21 ⁹ il reverdit à l'approche de l'eau,
il développe des branches comme une jeune plante.

WLC ⁹ מֵרֵ֣יחַ מַ֣יִם יַפְרִ֑חַ וְעָשָׂ֖ה קָצִ֣יר כְּמוֹ־ נָֽטַע׃

KJV ¹⁰ But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

S21 ¹⁰ Quant à l'homme, il meurt et il reste inerte.
Quand l'être humain expire, où est-il?

WLC ¹⁰ וְגֶ֣בֶר יָ֭מוּת וַֽיֶּחֱלָ֑שׁ וַיִּגְוַ֖ע אָדָ֣ם וְאַיּֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

S21 ¹¹ »L'eau de la mer se retire,
les fleuves arrêtent de couler et deviennent tout secs.

WLC ¹¹ אָֽזְלוּ־ מַ֭יִם מִנִּי־ יָ֑ם וְ֝נָהָ֗ר יֶחֱרַ֥ב וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃

KJV ¹² So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

S21 ¹² De la même manière, l'homme se couche pour ne plus se relever.
Il ne se réveillera pas tant que le ciel subsistera,
il ne sortira pas de son sommeil.

WLC ¹² וְאִ֥ישׁ שָׁכַ֗ב וְֽלֹא־ יָ֫ק֥וּם עַד־ בִּלְתִּ֣י שָׁ֭מַיִם לֹ֣א יָקִ֑יצוּ וְלֹֽא־ יֵ֝עֹ֗רוּ מִשְּׁנָתָֽם׃

KJV ¹³ O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

S21 ¹³ »Si seulement tu voulais me cacher dans le séjour des morts,
m'y tenir à l'abri jusqu'à ce que ta colère soit passée!
Tu me fixerais un délai, puis tu te souviendrais de moi.

WLC ¹³ מִ֤י יִתֵּ֨ן ׀ בִּשְׁא֬וֹל תַּצְפִּנֵ֗נִי תַּ֭סְתִּירֵנִי עַד־ שׁ֣וּב אַפֶּ֑ךָ תָּ֤שִׁ֥ית לִ֖י חֹ֣ק וְתִזְכְּרֵֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁴ If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

S21 ¹⁴ Mais si l'homme meurt, revivra-t-il?
Si tel était le cas, je garderais l'espoir, pendant toute ma vie de luttes,
que ma situation vienne à changer.

WLC ¹⁴ אִם־ יָמ֥וּת גֶּ֗בֶר הֲיִ֫חְיֶ֥ה כָּל־ יְמֵ֣י צְבָאִ֣י אֲיַחֵ֑ל עַד־ בּ֝֗וֹא חֲלִיפָתִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁵ Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

S21 ¹⁵ Tu appellerais et moi, je te répondrais.
Ton désir serait résolument tourné vers ta créature.

WLC ¹⁵ תִּ֭קְרָא וְאָנֹכִ֣י אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ךָּ לְֽמַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדֶ֣יךָ תִכְסֹֽף׃

KJV ¹⁶ For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

S21 ¹⁶ Alors que maintenant tu comptes mes pas,
tu n'aurais plus l'œil sur mes péchés;

WLC ¹⁶ כִּֽי־ עַ֭תָּה צְעָדַ֣י תִּסְפּ֑וֹר לֹֽא־ תִ֝שְׁמ֗וֹר עַל־ חַטָּאתִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁷ My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

S21 ¹⁷ tu enfermerais ma transgression dans un sac
et tu blanchirais ma faute.

WLC ¹⁷ חָתֻ֣ם בִּצְר֣וֹר פִּשְׁעִ֑י וַ֝תִּטְפֹּ֗ל עַל־ עֲוֺנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁸ And surely the mountains falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

S21 ¹⁸ »Mais la montagne qui s'écroule est réduite en poussière,
le rocher bouge de son emplacement,

WLC ¹⁸ וְ֭אוּלָם הַר־ נוֹפֵ֣ל יִבּ֑וֹל וְ֝צ֗וּר יֶעְתַּ֥ק מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁹ The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

S21 ¹⁹ l'eau use les pierres
et ses courants entraînent la poussière de la terre.
De la même manière, tu fais disparaître l'espérance de l'homme.

WLC ¹⁹ אֲבָנִ֤ים ׀ שָׁ֥חֲקוּ מַ֗יִם תִּשְׁטֹֽף־ סְפִיחֶ֥יהָ עֲפַר־ אָ֑רֶץ וְתִקְוַ֖ת אֱנ֣וֹשׁ הֶאֱבַֽדְתָּ׃

KJV ²⁰ Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

S21 ²⁰ Tu l'assailles sans cesse et il s'en va;
tu le défigures, puis tu le renvoies.

WLC ²⁰ תִּתְקְפֵ֣הוּ לָ֭נֶצַח וַֽיַּהֲלֹ֑ךְ מְשַׁנֶּ֥ה פָ֝נָ֗יו וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵֽהוּ׃

KJV ²¹ His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

S21 ²¹ Ses fils peuvent connaître la gloire, il n'en sait rien;
ils peuvent devenir insignifiants, il n'en perçoit rien.

WLC ²¹ יִכְבְּד֣וּ בָ֭נָיו וְלֹ֣א יֵדָ֑ע וְ֝יִצְעֲר֗וּ וְֽלֹא־ יָבִ֥ין לָֽמוֹ׃

KJV ²² But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

S21 ²² C'est pour lui seul qu'il éprouve de la douleur dans son corps,
c'est pour lui seul qu'il ressent de la tristesse dans son âme.»

WLC ²² אַךְ־ בְּ֭שָׂרוֹ עָלָ֣יו יִכְאָ֑ב וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ עָלָ֥יו תֶּאֱבָֽל׃
