KJV ¹ Then Job answered and said,

WLC ¹ וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

KJV ² I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

S21 ² «J'ai entendu beaucoup de propos semblables.
Vous êtes tous des consolateurs pénibles.

WLC ² שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי כְאֵ֣לֶּה רַבּ֑וֹת מְנַחֲמֵ֖י עָמָ֣ל כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃

KJV ³ Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

S21 ³ Quand finiront ces discours qui ne sont que du vent?
Pourquoi cette irritation dans tes réponses?

WLC ³ הֲקֵ֥ץ לְדִבְרֵי־ ר֑וּחַ א֥וֹ מַה־ יַּ֝מְרִֽיצְךָ֗ כִּ֣י תַעֲנֶֽה׃

KJV ⁴ I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

S21 ⁴ Moi aussi, je pourrais parler comme vous,
si vous étiez à ma place:
j'alignerais les discours contre vous,
je hocherais la tête sur vous,

WLC ⁴ גַּ֤ם ׀ אָנֹכִי֮ כָּכֶ֪ם אֲדַ֫בֵּ֥רָה ל֤וּ־ יֵ֪שׁ נַפְשְׁכֶ֡ם תַּ֤חַת נַפְשִׁ֗י אַחְבִּ֣ירָה עֲלֵיכֶ֣ם בְּמִלִּ֑ים וְאָנִ֥יעָה עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם בְּמ֣וֹ רֹאשִֽׁי׃

KJV ⁵ But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

S21 ⁵ je vous fortifierais par mes paroles,
le mouvement de mes lèvres vous apporterait du soulagement.

WLC ⁵ אֲאַמִּצְכֶ֥ם בְּמוֹ־ פִ֑י וְנִ֖יד שְׂפָתַ֣י יַחְשֹֽׂךְ׃

KJV ⁶ Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?

S21 ⁶ »Si je parle, ma souffrance n'est pas soulagée,
si je me tais, elle ne s'en ira pas loin de moi.

WLC ⁶ אִֽם־ אֲ֭דַבְּרָה לֹא־ יֵחָשֵׂ֣ךְ כְּאֵבִ֑י וְ֝אַחְדְּלָ֗ה מַה־ מִנִּ֥י יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃

KJV ⁷ But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

S21 ⁷ Maintenant, hélas, il m'a épuisé.
Tu as dévasté tous les miens.

WLC ⁷ אַךְ־ עַתָּ֥ה הֶלְאָ֑נִי הֲ֝שִׁמּ֗וֹתָ כָּל־ עֲדָתִֽי׃

KJV ⁸ And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

S21 ⁸ Tu m'as creusé des rides qui témoignent contre moi.
Ma maigreur se dresse contre moi et m'accuse en face.

WLC ⁸ וַֽ֭תִּקְמְטֵנִי לְעֵ֣ד הָיָ֑ה וַיָּ֥קָם בִּ֥י כַ֝חֲשִׁ֗י בְּפָנַ֥י יַעֲנֶֽה׃

KJV ⁹ He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

S21 ⁹ »Sa colère me déchire et s'attaque à moi,
il grince des dents contre moi.
Mon adversaire me transperce de son regard.

WLC ⁹ אַפּ֤וֹ טָרַ֨ף ׀ וַֽיִּשְׂטְמֵ֗נִי חָרַ֣ק עָלַ֣י בְּשִׁנָּ֑יו צָרִ֓י ׀ יִלְט֖וֹשׁ עֵינָ֣יו לִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

S21 ¹⁰ Ils ouvrent la bouche contre moi,
ils m'insultent et me frappent les joues,
ils s'attroupent contre moi.

WLC ¹⁰ פָּעֲר֬וּ עָלַ֨י ׀ בְּפִיהֶ֗ם בְּ֭חֶרְפָּה הִכּ֣וּ לְחָיָ֑י יַ֝֗חַד עָלַ֥י יִתְמַלָּאֽוּן׃

KJV ¹¹ God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

S21 ¹¹ »Dieu m'a livré au pouvoir d'un gamin,
il me jette entre les mains des méchants.

WLC ¹¹ יַסְגִּירֵ֣נִי אֵ֭ל אֶ֣ל עֲוִ֑יל וְעַל־ יְדֵ֖י רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִרְטֵֽנִי׃

KJV ¹² I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

S21 ¹² J'étais tranquille et il m'a secoué.
Il m'a attrapé par la nuque et m'a brisé,
il m'a redressé et me prend pour cible.

WLC ¹² שָׁ֘לֵ֤ו הָיִ֨יתִי ׀ וַֽיְפַרְפְּרֵ֗נִי וְאָחַ֣ז בְּ֭עָרְפִּי וַֽיְפַצְפְּצֵ֑נִי וַיְקִימֵ֥נִי ל֝֗וֹ לְמַטָּרָֽה׃

KJV ¹³ His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

S21 ¹³ Ses flèches m'environnent.
Il me transperce les reins sans aucune pitié,
il verse ma bile par terre.

WLC ¹³ יָ֘סֹ֤בּוּ עָלַ֨י ׀ רַבָּ֗יו יְפַלַּ֣ח כִּ֭לְיוֹתַי וְלֹ֣א יַחְמ֑וֹל יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ לָ֝אָ֗רֶץ מְרֵרָֽתִי׃

KJV ¹⁴ He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

S21 ¹⁴ Il fait en moi brèche sur brèche,
il se précipite sur moi comme un guerrier.

WLC ¹⁴ יִפְרְצֵ֣נִי פֶ֭רֶץ עַל־ פְּנֵי־ פָ֑רֶץ יָרֻ֖ץ עָלַ֣י כְּגִבּֽוֹר׃

KJV ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.

S21 ¹⁵ J'ai cousu un sac sur ma peau,
j'ai traîné ma fierté dans la poussière.

WLC ¹⁵ שַׂ֣ק תָּ֭פַרְתִּי עֲלֵ֣י גִלְדִּ֑י וְעֹלַ֖לְתִּי בֶעָפָ֣ר קַרְנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁶ My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

S21 ¹⁶ Mon visage est enflammé à force de pleurer,
l'ombre de la mort est sur mes paupières.

WLC ¹⁶ פָּנַ֣י מִנִּי־ בֶ֑כִי וְעַ֖ל עַפְעַפַּ֣י צַלְמָֽוֶת׃

KJV ¹⁷ Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.

S21 ¹⁷ Pourtant, je n'ai commis aucune violence
et ma prière a toujours été pure.

WLC ¹⁷ עַ֭ל לֹא־ חָמָ֣ס בְּכַפָּ֑י וּֽתְפִלָּתִ֥י זַכָּֽה׃

KJV ¹⁸ O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

S21 ¹⁸ »Terre, ne couvre pas mon sang,
que mon cri ne reste pas cantonné à un endroit!

WLC ¹⁸ אֶ֭רֶץ אַל־ תְּכַסִּ֣י דָמִ֑י וְֽאַל־ יְהִ֥י מָ֝ק֗וֹם לְזַעֲקָתִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁹ Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

S21 ¹⁹ Déjà maintenant, mon témoin est dans le ciel,
mon défenseur est dans les lieux élevés.

WLC ¹⁹ גַּם־ עַ֭תָּה הִנֵּה־ בַשָּׁמַ֣יִם עֵדִ֑י וְ֝שָׂהֲדִ֗י בַּמְּרוֹמִֽים׃

KJV ²⁰ My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

S21 ²⁰ Mes amis se moquent de moi? 
C'est Dieu que j'implore avec larmes.

WLC ²⁰ מְלִיצַ֥י רֵעָ֑י אֶל־ אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַ דָּלְפָ֥ה עֵינִֽי׃

KJV ²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!

S21 ²¹ Puisse-t-il être l'arbitre entre l'homme et Dieu,
entre l'être humain et son ami!

WLC ²¹ וְיוֹכַ֣ח לְגֶ֣בֶר עִם־ אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּֽבֶן־ אָדָ֥ם לְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃

KJV ²² When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

S21 ²² En effet, encore quelques années seulement
et je m'en irai par un sentier d'où je ne reviendrai pas.

WLC ²² כִּֽי־ שְׁנ֣וֹת מִסְפָּ֣ר יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ וְאֹ֖רַח לֹא־ אָשׁ֣וּב אֶהֱלֹֽךְ׃
