WLC ¹ וַיֹּ֣סֶף אִ֭יּוֹב שְׂאֵ֥ת מְשָׁל֗וֹ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

KJV ² As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;

S21 ² «Le Dieu qui me refuse justice est vivant!
Le Tout-Puissant qui me remplit d'amertume est vivant!

VULC ² [Vivit Deus, qui abstulit judicium meum,
et Omnipotens, qui ad amaritudinem adduxit animam meam.

WLC ² חַי־ אֵ֭ל הֵסִ֣יר מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הֵמַ֥ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃

KJV ³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

S21 ³ Aussi longtemps que je respirerai,
que le souffle de Dieu passera dans mes narines,

VULC ³ Quia donec superest halitus in me,
et spiritus Dei in naribus meis,

WLC ³ כִּֽי־ כָל־ ע֣וֹד נִשְׁמָתִ֣י בִ֑י וְר֖וּחַ אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּאַפִּֽי׃

KJV ⁴ My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

S21 ⁴ mes lèvres ne diront aucune injustice,
ma langue ne prononcera rien de faux.

VULC ⁴ non loquentur labia mea iniquitatem,
nec lingua mea meditabitur mendacium.

WLC ⁴ אִם־ תְּדַבֵּ֣רְנָה שְׂפָתַ֣י עַוְלָ֑ה וּ֝לְשׁוֹנִ֗י אִם־ יֶהְגֶּ֥ה רְמִיָּֽה׃

KJV ⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.

S21 ⁵ Je ne risque pas de vous donner raison.
Jusqu'à mon dernier soupir je défendrai mon intégrité.

VULC ⁵ Absit a me ut justos vos esse judicem :
donec deficiam, non recedam ab innocentia mea.

WLC ⁵ חָלִ֣ילָה לִּי֮ אִם־ אַצְדִּ֪יק אֶ֫תְכֶ֥ם עַד־ אֶגְוָ֑ע לֹא־ אָסִ֖יר תֻּמָּתִ֣י מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

KJV ⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

S21 ⁶ Je suis agrippé à ma justice et je ne la lâcherai pas.
Mon cœur ne me fait de reproche sur aucun jour de ma vie.

VULC ⁶ Justificationem meam, quam cœpi tenere, non deseram :
neque enim reprehendit me cor meum in omni vita mea.

WLC ⁶ בְּצִדְקָתִ֣י הֶ֭חֱזַקְתִּי וְלֹ֣א אַרְפֶּ֑הָ לֹֽא־ יֶחֱרַ֥ף לְ֝בָבִ֗י מִיָּמָֽי׃

KJV ⁷ Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

S21 ⁷ »Que ce soit mon ennemi qui soit traité en méchant,
et celui qui se dresse contre moi en homme injuste!

VULC ⁷ Sit ut impius, inimicus meus,
et adversarius meus quasi iniquus.

WLC ⁷ יְהִ֣י כְ֭רָשָׁע אֹ֣יְבִ֑י וּמִתְקוֹמְמִ֥י כְעַוָּֽל׃

KJV ⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

S21 ⁸ Quelle espérance reste-t-il à l'impie
quand Dieu coupe,
quand il arrache le fil de sa vie?

VULC ⁸ Quæ est enim spes hypocritæ, si avare rapiat,
et non liberet Deus animam ejus ?

WLC ⁸ כִּ֤י מַה־ תִּקְוַ֣ת חָ֭נֵף כִּ֣י יִבְצָ֑ע כִּ֤י יֵ֖שֶׁל אֱל֣וֹהַּ נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

KJV ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?

S21 ⁹ Dieu écoute-t-il ses cris
quand l'angoisse vient l'assaillir?

VULC ⁹ Numquid Deus audiet clamorem ejus,
cum venerit super eum angustia ?

WLC ⁹ הַֽ֭צַעֲקָתוֹ יִשְׁמַ֥ע ׀ אֵ֑ל כִּֽי־ תָב֖וֹא עָלָ֣יו צָרָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

S21 ¹⁰ Fera-t-il du Tout-Puissant ses délices?
Fera-t-il en toute circonstance appel à Dieu?

VULC ¹⁰ aut poterit in Omnipotente delectari,
et invocare Deum omni tempore ?

WLC ¹⁰ אִם־ עַל־ שַׁדַּ֥י יִתְעַנָּ֑ג יִקְרָ֖א אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּכָל־ עֵֽת׃

KJV ¹¹ I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

S21 ¹¹ »Je vais vous enseigner la manière dont Dieu agit,
je ne vais pas vous cacher les projets du Tout-Puissant.

VULC ¹¹ Docebo vos per manum Dei quæ Omnipotens habeat,
nec abscondam.

WLC ¹¹ אוֹרֶ֣ה אֶתְכֶ֣ם בְּיַד־ אֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עִם־ שַׁ֝דַּ֗י לֹ֣א אֲכַחֵֽד׃

KJV ¹² Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?

S21 ¹² Vous en avez tous eu un aperçu.
Pourquoi donc ces discours sans consistance?

VULC ¹² Ecce vos omnes nostis :
et quid sine causa vana loquimini ?

WLC ¹² הֵן־ אַתֶּ֣ם כֻּלְּכֶ֣ם חֲזִיתֶ֑ם וְלָמָּה־ זֶּ֝֗ה הֶ֣בֶל תֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃

KJV ¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

S21 ¹³ Voici la part que Dieu réserve au méchant,
l'héritage que l'homme violent reçoit du Tout-Puissant:

VULC ¹³ Hæc est pars hominis impii apud Deum,
et hæreditas violentorum, quam ob Omnipotente suscipient.

WLC ¹³ זֶ֤ה ׀ חֵֽלֶק־ אָדָ֖ם רָשָׁ֥ע ׀ עִם־ אֵ֑ל וְֽנַחֲלַ֥ת עָ֝רִיצִ֗ים מִשַּׁדַּ֥י יִקָּֽחוּ׃

KJV ¹⁴ If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

S21 ¹⁴ s'il a de nombreux fils, ce sera pour l'épée,
et ses rejetons manqueront de pain;

VULC ¹⁴ Si multiplicati fuerint filii ejus, in gladio erunt,
et nepotes ejus non saturabuntur pane :

WLC ¹⁴ אִם־ יִרְבּ֣וּ בָנָ֣יו לְמוֹ־ חָ֑רֶב וְ֝צֶאֱצָאָ֗יו לֹ֣א יִשְׂבְּעוּ־ לָֽחֶם׃

KJV ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.

S21 ¹⁵ les survivants seront ensevelis par la mort
sans que leurs veuves ne les pleurent.

VULC ¹⁵ qui reliqui fuerint ex eo sepelientur in interitu,
et viduæ illius non plorabunt.

WLC ¹⁵ בַּמָּ֣וֶת יִקָּבֵ֑רוּ וְ֝אַלְמְנֹתָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִבְכֶּֽינָה׃

KJV ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;

S21 ¹⁶ Il aura beau amasser l'argent comme la poussière,
accumuler des vêtements comme de la boue,

VULC ¹⁶ Si comportaverit quasi terram argentum,
et sicut lutum præparaverit vestimenta :

WLC ¹⁶ אִם־ יִצְבֹּ֣ר כֶּעָפָ֣ר כָּ֑סֶף וְ֝כַחֹ֗מֶר יָכִ֥ין מַלְבּֽוּשׁ׃

KJV ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

S21 ¹⁷ il les accumulera mais c'est le juste qui les enfilera,
c'est l'innocent qui jouira de son argent.

VULC ¹⁷ præparabit quidem, sed justus vestietur illis,
et argentum innocens dividet.

WLC ¹⁷ יָ֭כִין וְצַדִּ֣יק יִלְבָּ֑שׁ וְ֝כֶ֗סֶף נָקִ֥י יַחֲלֹֽק׃

KJV ¹⁸ He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.

S21 ¹⁸ Il s'est construit une maison, mais elle est aussi fragile que celle de la teigne,
pareille à la cabane que se fait un gardien.

VULC ¹⁸ Ædificavit sicut tinea domum suam,
et sicut custos fecit umbraculum.

WLC ¹⁸ בָּנָ֣ה כָעָ֣שׁ בֵּית֑וֹ וּ֝כְסֻכָּ֗ה עָשָׂ֥ה נֹצֵֽר׃

KJV ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

S21 ¹⁹ Il se couchera riche, mais ce n'est pas ainsi qu'il sera enseveli:
il ouvre les yeux et tout a disparu.

VULC ¹⁹ Dives, cum dormierit, nihil secum auferet :
aperiet oculos suos, et nihil inveniet.

WLC ¹⁹ עָשִׁ֣יר יִ֭שְׁכַּב וְלֹ֣א יֵאָסֵ֑ף עֵינָ֖יו פָּקַ֣ח וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

KJV ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

S21 ²⁰ Les terreurs le surprennent comme de l'eau,
une tempête l'emporte en pleine nuit;

VULC ²⁰ Apprehendet eum quasi aqua inopia :
nocte opprimet eum tempestas.

WLC ²⁰ תַּשִּׂיגֵ֣הוּ כַ֭מַּיִם בַּלָּה֑וֹת לַ֝֗יְלָה גְּנָבַ֥תּוּ סוּפָֽה׃

KJV ²¹ The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.

S21 ²¹ le vent d'est le soulève et il s'en va,
il est violemment arraché de l'endroit qu'il occupait.

VULC ²¹ Tollet eum ventus urens, et auferet,
et velut turbo rapiet eum de loco suo.

WLC ²¹ יִשָּׂאֵ֣הוּ קָדִ֣ים וְיֵלַ֑ךְ וִֽ֝ישָׂעֲרֵ֗הוּ מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃

KJV ²² For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

S21 ²² On lance sans pitié des flèches contre lui.
Il cherche à fuir la main qui veut l'abattre.

VULC ²² Et mittet super eum, et non parcet :
de manu ejus fugiens fugiet.

WLC ²² וְיַשְׁלֵ֣ךְ עָ֭לָיו וְלֹ֣א יַחְמֹ֑ל מִ֝יָּד֗וֹ בָּר֥וֹחַ יִבְרָֽח׃

KJV ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

S21 ²³ On applaudit à sa chute
et, de l'endroit même qu'il occupait, on siffle contre lui.

VULC ²³ Stringet super eum manus suas,
et sibilabit super illum, intuens locum ejus.]

WLC ²³ יִשְׂפֹּ֣ק עָלֵ֣ימוֹ כַפֵּ֑ימוֹ וְיִשְׁרֹ֥ק עָ֝לָ֗יו מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃
