KJV ¹ So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

KJV ² Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

VULC ² Et iratus indignatusque est Eliu filius Barachel Buzites, de cognatione Ram : iratus est autem adversum Job, eo quod justum se esse diceret coram Deo.

KJV ³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

VULC ³ Porro adversum amicos ejus indignatus est, eo quod non invenissent responsionem rationabilem, sed tantummodo condemnassent Job.

WLC ³ וּבִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת רֵעָיו֮ חָרָ֪ה אַ֫פּ֥וֹ עַ֤ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־ מָצְא֣וּ מַעֲנֶ֑ה וַ֝יַּרְשִׁ֗יעוּ אֶת־ אִיּֽוֹב׃

KJV ⁴ Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

VULC ⁴ Igitur Eliu expectavit Job loquentem, eo quod seniores essent qui loquebantur.

WLC ⁴ וֶֽאֱלִיה֗וּ חִכָּ֣ה אֶת־ אִ֭יּוֹב בִּדְבָרִ֑ים כִּ֤י זְֽקֵנִים־ הֵ֖מָּה מִמֶּ֣נּוּ לְיָמִֽים׃

KJV ⁵ When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

VULC ⁵ Cum autem vidisset quod tres respondere non potuissent, iratus est vehementer.

WLC ⁵ וַיַּ֤רְא אֱלִיה֗וּא כִּ֘י אֵ֤ין מַעֲנֶ֗ה בְּ֭פִי שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים וַיִּ֥חַר אַפּֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

VULC ⁶ Respondensque Eliu filius Barachel Buzites, dixit : [Junior sum tempore, vos autem antiquiores :
idcirco, demisso capite,
veritus sum vobis indicare meam sententiam.

WLC ⁶ וַיַּ֤עַן ׀ אֱלִיה֖וּא בֶן־ בַּֽרַכְאֵ֥ל הַבּוּזִ֗י וַיֹּ֫אמַ֥ר צָ֘עִ֤יר אֲנִ֣י לְ֭יָמִים וְאַתֶּ֣ם יְשִׁישִׁ֑ים עַל־ כֵּ֖ן זָחַ֥לְתִּי וָֽאִירָ֓א ׀ מֵחַוֺּ֖ת דֵּעִ֣י אֶתְכֶֽם׃

KJV ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

VULC ⁷ Sperabam enim quod ætas prolixior loqueretur,
et annorum multitudo doceret sapientiam.

WLC ⁷ אָ֭מַרְתִּי יָמִ֣ים יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ וְרֹ֥ב שָׁ֝נִ֗ים יֹדִ֥יעוּ חָכְמָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

VULC ⁸ Sed, ut video, spiritus est in hominibus,
et inspiratio Omnipotentis dat intelligentiam.

WLC ⁸ אָ֭כֵן רֽוּחַ־ הִ֣יא בֶאֱנ֑וֹשׁ וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת שַׁדַּ֣י תְּבִינֵֽם׃

KJV ⁹ Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

VULC ⁹ Non sunt longævi sapientes,
nec senes intelligunt judicium.

WLC ⁹ לֹֽא־ רַבִּ֥ים יֶחְכָּ֑מוּ וּ֝זְקֵנִ֗ים יָבִ֥ינוּ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

KJV ¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

VULC ¹⁰ Ideo dicam : Audite me :
ostendam vobis etiam ego meam sapientiam.

WLC ¹⁰ לָכֵ֣ן אָ֭מַרְתִּי שִׁמְעָה־ לִּ֑י אֲחַוֶּ֖ה דֵּעִ֣י אַף־ אָֽנִי׃

KJV ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.

VULC ¹¹ Expectavi enim sermones vestros ;

WLC ¹¹ הֵ֤ן הוֹחַ֨לְתִּי לְֽדִבְרֵיכֶ֗ם אָ֭זִין עַד־ תְּב֥וּנֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם עַֽד־ תַּחְקְר֥וּן מִלִּֽין׃

KJV ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:

sed, ut video, non est qui possit arguere Job,
et respondere ex vobis sermonibus ejus.

WLC ¹² וְעָֽדֵיכֶ֗ם אֶתְבּ֫וֹנָ֥ן וְהִנֵּ֤ה אֵ֣ין לְאִיּ֣וֹב מוֹכִ֑יחַ עוֹנֶ֖ה אֲמָרָ֣יו מִכֶּֽם׃

KJV ¹³ Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.

VULC ¹³ Ne forte dicatis : Invenimus sapientiam :
Deus projecit eum, non homo.

WLC ¹³ פֶּן־ תֹּ֣֭אמְרוּ מָצָ֣אנוּ חָכְמָ֑ה אֵ֖ל יִדְּפֶ֣נּוּ לֹא־ אִֽישׁ׃

KJV ¹⁴ Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

VULC ¹⁴ Nihil locutus est mihi :
et ego non secundum sermones vestros respondebo illi.

WLC ¹⁴ וְלֹא־ עָרַ֣ךְ אֵלַ֣י מִלִּ֑ין וּ֝בְאִמְרֵיכֶ֗ם לֹ֣א אֲשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃

KJV ¹⁵ They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.

VULC ¹⁵ Extimuerunt, nec responderunt ultra,
abstuleruntque a se eloquia.

WLC ¹⁵ חַ֭תּוּ לֹא־ עָ֣נוּ ע֑וֹד הֶעְתִּ֖יקוּ מֵהֶ֣ם מִלִּֽים׃

KJV ¹⁶ When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)

WLC ¹⁶ וְ֭הוֹחַלְתִּי כִּי־ לֹ֣א יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ כִּ֥י עָ֝מְד֗וּ לֹא־ עָ֥נוּ עֽוֹד׃

KJV ¹⁷ I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.

VULC ¹⁷ respondebo et ego partem meam,
et ostendam scientiam meam.

WLC ¹⁷ אַעֲנֶ֣ה אַף־ אֲנִ֣י חֶלְקִ֑י אֲחַוֶּ֖ה דֵעִ֣י אַף־ אָֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁸ For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.

VULC ¹⁸ Plenus sum enim sermonibus,
et coarctat me spiritus uteri mei.

WLC ¹⁸ כִּ֭י מָלֵ֣תִי מִלִּ֑ים הֱ֝צִיקַ֗תְנִי ר֣וּחַ בִּטְנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

VULC ¹⁹ En venter meus quasi mustum absque spiraculo,
quod lagunculas novas disrumpit.

WLC ¹⁹ הִנֵּֽה־ בִטְנִ֗י כְּיַ֥יִן לֹא־ יִפָּתֵ֑חַ כְּאֹב֥וֹת חֲ֝דָשִׁ֗ים יִבָּקֵֽעַ׃

KJV ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

VULC ²⁰ Loquar, et respirabo paululum :
aperiam labia mea, et respondebo.

WLC ²⁰ אֲדַבְּרָ֥ה וְיִֽרְוַֽח־ לִ֑י אֶפְתַּ֖ח שְׂפָתַ֣י וְאֶֽעֱנֶֽה׃

KJV ²¹ Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.

VULC ²¹ Non accipiam personam viri,
et Deum homini non æquabo.

WLC ²¹ אַל־ נָ֭א אֶשָּׂ֣א פְנֵי־ אִ֑ישׁ וְאֶל־ אָ֝דָ֗ם לֹ֣א אֲכַנֶּֽה׃

KJV ²² For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

VULC ²² Nescio enim quamdiu subsistam,
et si post modicum tollat me factor meus.]
