BAN ¹ Ah ! mon coeur en tremble,
Il tressaute hors de sa place !

KJV ¹ At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.

BAN ² Ecoutez donc le fracas de sa voix,
Le grondement qui sort de sa bouche !

KJV ² Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

BAN ³ Il le fait retentir sous tous les cieux,
Et ses éclairs vont jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

KJV ³ He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

BAN ⁴ Aussitôt sa voix mugit,
Il tonne de sa voix majestueuse ;
Quand sa voix se fait entendre, ses foudres ne sont plus dans sa main.

KJV ⁴ After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

BAN ⁵ Dieu tonne merveilleusement de sa voix ;
Il fait de grandes choses, que nous ne connaissons pas.

KJV ⁵ God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

BAN ⁶ Car à la neige il dit : Tombe sur la terre ;
Il le dit à la pluie, aux pluies torrentielles les plus fortes.

KJV ⁶ For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

BAN ⁷ Il met les scellés sur la main de tout homme,
Afin que tous ceux qu'il a créés comprennent.

KJV ⁷ He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

BAN ⁸ L'animal entre dans son gîte,
Et demeure dans sa tanière.

KJV ⁸ Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

BAN ⁹ La tempête sort de sa retraite,
Et les vents violents amènent la froidure.

KJV ⁹ Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

BAN ¹⁰ Au souffle de Dieu se produit la glace,
Et l'étendue des eaux est à l'étroit.

KJV ¹⁰ By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

BAN ¹¹ Il charge d'humidité les nuages ;
Il étend au loin ses nuées lumineuses.

KJV ¹¹ Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

BAN ¹² Celles-ci se tournent de côté et d'autre selon ses desseins,
Pour faire tout ce qu'il leur ordonne,
En descendant sur la surface de la terre.

KJV ¹² And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

BAN ¹³ Il les envoie, soit pour châtier, si sa terre en a besoin,
Soit en témoignage de bonté.

KJV ¹³ He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

BAN ¹⁴ Prête l'oreille à ceci, ô Job ;
Arrête-toi et considère les merveilles du Dieu fort.

KJV ¹⁴ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

BAN ¹⁵ Sais-tu comment Dieu les dispose,
Et comment il fait éclater la lumière de ses nues ?

KJV ¹⁵ Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

BAN ¹⁶ Comprends-tu le balancement des nuages,
Les merveilles de celui qui est parfaitement sage ?

KJV ¹⁶ Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

BAN ¹⁷ Toi dont les habits deviennent brûlants
Quand la terre est immobile sous le vent du midi,

KJV ¹⁷ How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

BAN ¹⁸ Peux-tu, comme lui, étendre les cieux ;
Les rendre solides comme un miroir de fonte ?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

BAN ¹⁹ Fais-nous savoir ce que nous devons lui dire.
Nous ne pouvons rien avancer à cause de [nos] ténèbres.

KJV ¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

BAN ²⁰ Lui annoncera-t-on que je veux parler ?
Quelqu'un a-t-il jamais désiré être englouti ?

KJV ²⁰ Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

BAN ²¹ Et maintenant on n'a jamais pu regarder la lumière,
Quand elle brille entre les nuages
Après qu'un vent a passé et les a dissipés.

KJV ²¹ And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

BAN ²² L'or vient du septentrion ;
Mais Dieu est entouré d'un éclat redoutable ;

KJV ²² Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

BAN ²³ Le Puissant, nous ne saurions l'atteindre,
Lui qui est grand en force et en jugement
Et qui ne fait pas fléchir la pleine justice.

KJV ²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

BAN ²⁴ Que les hommes donc le craignent !
Il ne prend point garde à ceux qui se croient sages.

KJV ²⁴ Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
