KJV 1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

KJV 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

KJV 3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

KJV 4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

VULC 4 Ne dederis somnum oculis tuis,
nec dormitent palpebræ tuæ.

WLC 4 אַל־ תִּתֵּ֣ן שֵׁנָ֣ה לְעֵינֶ֑יךָ וּ֝תְנוּמָ֗ה לְעַפְעַפֶּֽיךָ׃

KJV 5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

VULC 5 Eruere quasi damula de manu,

KJV 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

et considera vias ejus, et disce sapientiam.

WLC 6 לֵֽךְ־ אֶל־ נְמָלָ֥ה עָצֵ֑ל רְאֵ֖ה דְרָכֶ֣יהָ וַחֲכָֽם׃

KJV 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

VULC 7 Quæ cum non habeat ducem,
nec præceptorem, nec principem,

WLC 7 אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵֽין־ לָ֥הּ קָצִ֗ין שֹׁטֵ֥ר וּמֹשֵֽׁל׃

KJV 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

KJV 9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

KJV 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

KJV 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

VULC 11 et veniet tibi quasi viator egestas,
et pauperies quasi vir armatus.
Si vero impiger fueris, veniet ut fons messis tua,
et egestas longe fugiet a te.]

WLC 11 וּבָֽא־ כִמְהַלֵּ֥ךְ רֵאשֶׁ֑ךָ וּ֝מַחְסֹֽרְךָ֗ כְּאִ֣ישׁ מָגֵֽן׃

KJV 12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

VULC 12 [Homo apostata, vir inutilis, graditur ore perverso ;

WLC 12 אָדָ֣ם בְּ֭לִיַּעַל אִ֣ישׁ אָ֑וֶן ה֝וֹלֵ֗ךְ עִקְּשׁ֥וּת פֶּֽה׃

KJV 13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

VULC 13 annuit oculis, terit pede, digito loquitur,

WLC 13 קֹרֵ֣ץ בְּ֭עֵינָו מֹלֵ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֑ו מֹ֝רֶ֗ה בְּאֶצְבְּעֹתָֽיו׃

KJV 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

VULC 14 pravo corde machinatur malum,
et omni tempore jurgia seminat.

WLC 14 תַּֽהְפֻּכ֨וֹת ׀ בְּלִבּ֗וֹ חֹרֵ֣שׁ רָ֣ע בְּכָל־ עֵ֑ת יְשַׁלֵּֽחַ׃

KJV 15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

VULC 15 Huic extemplo veniet perditio sua,
et subito conteretur, nec habebit ultra medicinam.]

KJV 16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

KJV 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

pedes veloces ad currendum in malum,

WLC 18 לֵ֗ב חֹ֭רֵשׁ מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֑וֶן רַגְלַ֥יִם מְ֝מַהֲר֗וֹת לָר֥וּץ לָֽרָעָה׃

KJV 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

KJV 20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

VULC 20 [Conserva, fili mi, præcepta patris tui,
et ne dimittas legem matris tuæ.

WLC 20 נְצֹ֣ר בְּ֭נִי מִצְוַ֣ת אָבִ֑יךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃

KJV 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

VULC 21 Liga ea in corde tuo jugiter,
et circumda gutturi tuo.

WLC 21 קָשְׁרֵ֣ם עַל־ לִבְּךָ֣ תָמִ֑יד עָ֝נְדֵ֗ם עַל־ גַּרְגְּרֹתֶֽךָ׃

KJV 22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

VULC 22 Cum ambulaveris, gradiantur tecum ;
cum dormieris, custodiant te :
et evigilans loquere cum eis.

KJV 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

VULC 23 Quia mandatum lucerna est, et lex lux,
et via vitæ increpatio disciplinæ :

KJV 24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

KJV 25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

KJV 26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

KJV 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

VULC 27 Numquid potest homo abscondere ignem in sinu suo,
ut vestimenta illius non ardeant ?

WLC 27 הֲיַחְתֶּ֤ה אִ֓ישׁ אֵ֬שׁ בְּחֵיק֑וֹ וּ֝בְגָדָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִשָּׂרַֽפְנָה׃

KJV 28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

VULC 28 aut ambulare super prunas,
ut non comburantur plantæ ejus ?

WLC 28 אִם־ יְהַלֵּ֣ךְ אִ֭ישׁ עַל־ הַגֶּחָלִ֑ים וְ֝רַגְלָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִכָּוֶֽינָה׃

KJV 29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

non erit mundus cum tetigerit eam.

KJV 30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

VULC 30 Non grandis est culpa cum quis furatus fuerit :
furatur enim ut esurientem impleat animam ;

WLC 30 לֹא־ יָב֣וּזוּ לַ֭גַּנָּב כִּ֣י יִגְנ֑וֹב לְמַלֵּ֥א נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ כִּ֣י יִרְעָֽב׃

KJV 31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

KJV 32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

KJV 33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

KJV 34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

KJV 35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
