DRB ² car je vous donne une bonne doctrine : n'abandonnez pas mon enseignement.

KJV ² For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

DRB ³ Car j'ai été un fils pour mon père, tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.

KJV ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

WLC ³ כִּי־ בֵ֭ן הָיִ֣יתִי לְאָבִ֑י רַ֥ךְ וְ֝יָחִ֗יד לִפְנֵ֥י אִמִּֽי׃

DRB ⁴ Il m'a enseigné et m'a dit : Que ton cœur retienne mes paroles ; garde mes commandements, et tu vivras.

KJV ⁴ He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

VULC ⁴ Et docebat me, atque dicebat :
Suscipiat verba mea cor tuum ;
custodi præcepta mea, et vives.

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּרֵ֗נִי וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֗י יִֽתְמָךְ־ דְּבָרַ֥י לִבֶּ֑ךָ שְׁמֹ֖ר מִצְוֺתַ֣י וֶֽחְיֵֽה׃

DRB ⁵ Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l'intelligence ; ne [l']oublie pas, et ne te détourne pas des paroles de ma bouche.

KJV ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

VULC ⁵ Posside sapientiam, posside prudentiam :
ne obliviscaris, neque declines a verbis oris mei.

WLC ⁵ קְנֵ֣ה חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה בִינָ֑ה אַל־ תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח וְאַל־ תֵּ֝֗ט מֵֽאִמְרֵי־ פִֽי׃

DRB ⁶ Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera ; aime-la, et elle te conservera.

KJV ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

dilige eam, et conservabit te.

WLC ⁶ אַל־ תַּעַזְבֶ֥הָ וְתִשְׁמְרֶ֑ךָּ אֱהָבֶ֥הָ וְתִצְּרֶֽךָּ׃

DRB ⁷ Le commencement de la sagesse, c'est : Acquiers* la sagesse, et, au prix de toutes tes acquisitions, acquiers l'intelligence.

KJV ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

DRB ⁸ Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera ; elle t'honorera quand tu l'auras embrassée.

KJV ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

VULC ⁸ Arripe illam, et exaltabit te ;
glorificaberis ab ea cum eam fueris amplexatus.

WLC ⁸ סַלְסְלֶ֥הָ וּֽתְרוֹמְמֶ֑ךָּ תְּ֝כַבֵּ֗דְךָ כִּ֣י תְחַבְּקֶֽנָּה׃

DRB ⁹ Elle mettra sur ta tête une guirlande de grâce, elle te donnera une couronne de gloire.

KJV ⁹ She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

VULC ⁹ Dabit capiti tuo augmenta gratiarum,

DRB ¹⁰ Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, et les années de ta vie te seront multipliées.

DRB ¹² Quand tu marcheras, tes pas ne seront pas gênés, et si tu cours, tu ne broncheras pas.

DRB ¹⁸ Mais le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante qui va croissant jusqu'à ce que le plein jour soit établi.

KJV ²² For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

DRB ²⁵ Que tes yeux regardent droit en avant, et que tes paupières se dirigent droit devant toi.

KJV ²⁵ Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

KJV ³ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

et nitidius oleo guttur ejus :

WLC ³ כִּ֤י נֹ֣פֶת תִּ֭טֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתֵ֣י זָרָ֑ה וְחָלָ֖ק מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן חִכָּֽהּ׃

DRB ⁴ mais à la fin elle est amère comme l'absinthe, aiguë comme une épée à deux tranchants.

KJV ⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

DRB ⁸ Éloigne ta voie d'auprès d'elle, et ne t'approche point de l'entrée de sa maison ;

KJV ⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

et ne appropinques foribus domus ejus.

WLC ⁸ הַרְחֵ֣ק מֵעָלֶ֣יהָ דַרְכֶּ֑ךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝קְרַ֗ב אֶל־ פֶּ֥תַח בֵּיתָֽהּ׃

DRB ⁹ de peur que tu ne donnes ton honneur à d'autres, et tes années à l'homme cruel ;

KJV ⁹ Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

VULC ⁹ Ne des alienis honorem tuum,
et annos tuos crudeli :

WLC ⁹ פֶּן־ תִּתֵּ֣ן לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים הוֹדֶ֑ךָ וּ֝שְׁנֹתֶ֗יךָ לְאַכְזָרִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁰ de peur que des étrangers ne se rassasient de ton bien, et que ton travail ne soit dans la maison d'un étranger ;

KJV ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

VULC ¹⁰ ne forte impleantur extranei viribus tuis,
et labores tui sint in domo aliena,

WLC ¹⁰ פֶּֽן־ יִשְׂבְּע֣וּ זָרִ֣ים כֹּחֶ֑ךָ וַ֝עֲצָבֶ֗יךָ בְּבֵ֣ית נָכְרִֽי׃

DRB ¹¹ et que tu ne gémisses à ta fin, quand ta chair et ton corps se consumeront ;

KJV ¹¹ And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

quando consumpseris carnes tuas et corpus tuum,
et dicas :

DRB ¹² et que tu ne dises : Comment ai-je haï l'instruction, et mon cœur a-t-il méprisé la répréhension ?

KJV ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

et increpationibus non acquievit cor meum,

WLC ¹² וְֽאָמַרְתָּ֗ אֵ֭יךְ שָׂנֵ֣אתִי מוּסָ֑ר וְ֝תוֹכַ֗חַת נָאַ֥ץ לִבִּֽי׃

DRB ¹³ Comment n'ai-je pas écouté la voix de ceux qui m'instruisaient, ni incliné mon oreille vers ceux qui m'enseignaient ?

KJV ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

et magistris non inclinavi aurem meam ?

WLC ¹³ וְֽלֹא־ שָׁ֭מַעְתִּי בְּק֣וֹל מוֹרָ֑י וְ֝לִֽמְלַמְּדַ֗י לֹא־ הִטִּ֥יתִי אָזְנִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁴ Peu s'en est fallu que je n'aie été dans toute sorte de mal, au milieu de la congrégation et de l'assemblée.

KJV ¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

VULC ¹⁴ pene fui in omni malo,
in medio ecclesiæ et synagogæ.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּ֭מְעַט הָיִ֣יתִי בְכָל־ רָ֑ע בְּת֖וֹךְ קָהָ֣ל וְעֵדָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁵ Bois des eaux de ta citerne, et de ce qui coule du milieu de ton puits.

KJV ¹⁵ Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

VULC ¹⁵ Bibe aquam de cisterna tua,
et fluenta putei tui ;

WLC ¹⁵ שְׁתֵה־ מַ֥יִם מִבּוֹרֶ֑ךָ וְ֝נֹזְלִ֗ים מִתּ֥וֹךְ בְּאֵרֶֽךָ׃

DRB ¹⁶ Tes fontaines se répandront au dehors, des ruisseaux d'eau dans les places.

KJV ¹⁶ Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

VULC ¹⁶ deriventur fontes tui foras,
et in plateis aquas tuas divide.

WLC ¹⁶ יָפ֣וּצוּ מַעְיְנֹתֶ֣יךָ ח֑וּצָה בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת פַּלְגֵי־ מָֽיִם׃

DRB ¹⁷ Qu'elles soient à toi seul, et non à des étrangers avec toi.

KJV ¹⁷ Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

nec sint alieni participes tui.

WLC ¹⁷ יִֽהְיוּ־ לְךָ֥ לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ וְאֵ֖ין לְזָרִ֣ים אִתָּֽךְ׃

DRB ¹⁸ Que ta source soit bénie, et réjouis-toi de la femme de ta jeunesse,

KJV ¹⁸ Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

et lætare cum muliere adolescentiæ tuæ.

WLC ¹⁸ יְהִֽי־ מְקוֹרְךָ֥ בָר֑וּךְ וּ֝שְׂמַ֗ח מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת נְעוּרֶֽךָ׃

DRB ¹⁹ biche des amours, et chevrette pleine de grâce ; que ses seins t'enivrent en tout temps ; sois continuellement épris de son amour.

KJV ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

VULC ¹⁹ Cerva carissima, et gratissimus hinnulus :
ubera ejus inebrient te in omni tempore ;
in amore ejus delectare jugiter.

DRB ²⁰ Et pourquoi, mon fils, serais-tu épris d'une étrangère, et embrasserais-tu le sein de l'étrangère ?

KJV ²⁰ And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

DRB ²¹ Car les voies de l'homme sont devant les yeux de l'Éternel, et il pèse tous ses chemins.

DRB ¹² Celui qui marche, la perversité dans sa bouche, est un homme de Bélial, un homme inique ;

KJV ¹² A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

WLC ¹² אָדָ֣ם בְּ֭לִיַּעַל אִ֣ישׁ אָ֑וֶן ה֝וֹלֵ֗ךְ עִקְּשׁ֥וּת פֶּֽה׃

DRB ¹³ il cligne de ses yeux, il parle de ses pieds, il enseigne de ses doigts ;

KJV ¹³ He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

VULC ¹³ annuit oculis, terit pede, digito loquitur,

DRB ¹⁵ C'est pourquoi sa calamité viendra subitement ; il sera tout à coup brisé, et il n'y a pas de remède.

DRB ¹⁸ le cœur qui machine des projets d'iniquité, les pieds qui se hâtent de courir au mal,

KJV ¹⁸ An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

VULC ¹⁸ cor machinans cogitationes pessimas,
pedes veloces ad currendum in malum,

WLC ¹⁸ לֵ֗ב חֹ֭רֵשׁ מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֑וֶן רַגְלַ֥יִם מְ֝מַהֲר֗וֹת לָר֥וּץ לָֽרָעָה׃

DRB ¹⁹ le faux témoin qui profère des mensonges, et celui qui sème des querelles entre des frères.

KJV ¹⁹ A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

WLC ¹⁹ יָפִ֣יחַ כְּ֭זָבִים עֵ֣ד שָׁ֑קֶר וּמְשַׁלֵּ֥חַ מְ֝דָנִ֗ים בֵּ֣ין אַחִֽים׃

DRB ²⁰ Mon fils, garde le commandement de ton père, et n'abandonne pas l'enseignement de ta mère ;

KJV ²⁰ My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

VULC ²⁰ [Conserva, fili mi, præcepta patris tui,
et ne dimittas legem matris tuæ.

WLC ²⁰ נְצֹ֣ר בְּ֭נִי מִצְוַ֣ת אָבִ֑יךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃

DRB ²¹ tiens-les continuellement liés sur ton cœur, attache-les à ton cou.

KJV ²¹ Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

VULC ²¹ Liga ea in corde tuo jugiter,
et circumda gutturi tuo.

WLC ²¹ קָשְׁרֵ֣ם עַל־ לִבְּךָ֣ תָמִ֑יד עָ֝נְדֵ֗ם עַל־ גַּרְגְּרֹתֶֽךָ׃

KJV ²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

DRB ²⁵ Ne désire pas sa beauté dans ton cœur, et qu'elle ne te prenne pas par ses paupières ;

KJV ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

VULC ²⁵ Non concupiscat pulchritudinem ejus cor tuum,
nec capiaris nutibus illius :

WLC ²⁵ אַל־ תַּחְמֹ֣ד יָ֭פְיָהּ בִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝קָּֽחֲךָ֗ בְּעַפְעַפֶּֽיהָ׃

DRB ²⁶ car par la femme prostituée [on en vient] jusqu'à un morceau de pain, et la femme d'autrui chasse après l'âme précieuse.

KJV ²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

KJV ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

VULC ²⁷ Numquid potest homo abscondere ignem in sinu suo,
ut vestimenta illius non ardeant ?

WLC ²⁷ הֲיַחְתֶּ֤ה אִ֓ישׁ אֵ֬שׁ בְּחֵיק֑וֹ וּ֝בְגָדָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִשָּׂרַֽפְנָה׃

DRB ²⁸ Si un homme marche sur des charbons ardents, ses pieds ne seront-ils pas brûlés ?

KJV ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

VULC ²⁸ aut ambulare super prunas,
ut non comburantur plantæ ejus ?

WLC ²⁸ אִם־ יְהַלֵּ֣ךְ אִ֭ישׁ עַל־ הַגֶּחָלִ֑ים וְ֝רַגְלָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִכָּוֶֽינָה׃

DRB ²⁹ Ainsi celui qui entre vers la femme de son prochain…, quiconque la touchera ne sera point innocent.

KJV ²⁹ So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

VULC ²⁹ sic qui ingreditur ad mulierem proximi sui,
non erit mundus cum tetigerit eam.

WLC ²⁹ כֵּ֗ן הַ֭בָּא אֶל־ אֵ֣שֶׁת רֵעֵ֑הוּ לֹ֥א יִ֝נָּקֶ֗ה כָּֽל־ הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּֽהּ׃

DRB ³⁰ On ne méprise pas un voleur s'il vole pour satisfaire son âme quand il a faim ;

KJV ³⁰ Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

VULC ³⁰ Non grandis est culpa cum quis furatus fuerit :
furatur enim ut esurientem impleat animam ;

WLC ³⁰ לֹא־ יָב֣וּזוּ לַ֭גַּנָּב כִּ֣י יִגְנ֑וֹב לְמַלֵּ֥א נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ כִּ֣י יִרְעָֽב׃

DRB ³¹ et s'il est trouvé, il rendra le septuple, il donnera tous les biens de sa maison.

KJV ³¹ But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

VULC ³¹ deprehensus quoque reddet septuplum,
et omnem substantiam domus suæ tradet.

WLC ³¹ וְ֭נִמְצָא יְשַׁלֵּ֣ם שִׁבְעָתָ֑יִם אֶת־ כָּל־ ה֖וֹן בֵּית֣וֹ יִתֵּֽן׃

DRB ³² Celui qui commet adultère avec une femme manque de sens ; celui qui le fait détruit son âme :

KJV ³² But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

VULC ³² Qui autem adulter est,
propter cordis inopiam perdet animam suam ;

WLC ³² נֹאֵ֣ף אִשָּׁ֣ה חֲסַר־ לֵ֑ב מַֽשְׁחִ֥ית נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ ה֣וּא יַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃

DRB ³³ il trouvera plaie et mépris, et son opprobre ne sera pas effacé ;

KJV ³³ A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

et opprobrium illius non delebitur :

WLC ³³ נֶֽגַע־ וְקָל֥וֹן יִמְצָ֑א וְ֝חֶרְפָּת֗וֹ לֹ֣א תִמָּחֶֽה׃

DRB ³⁴ car dans l'homme, la jalousie est une fureur*, et il n'épargnera pas au jour de la vengeance ;

KJV ³⁴ For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

VULC ³⁴ quia zelus et furor viri
non parcet in die vindictæ,

WLC ³⁴ כִּֽי־ קִנְאָ֥ה חֲמַת־ גָּ֑בֶר וְלֹֽא־ יַ֝חְמ֗וֹל בְּי֣וֹם נָקָֽם׃

DRB ³⁵ il n'acceptera aucune propitiation, et ne se tiendra pas pour satisfait, quand tu multiplierais les présents.

KJV ³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

VULC ³⁵ nec acquiescet cujusquam precibus,
nec suscipiet pro redemptione dona plurima.]
