KJV 1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

VULC 1 [Audite, filii, disciplinam patris,
et attendite ut sciatis prudentiam.

WLC 1 שִׁמְע֣וּ בָ֭נִים מ֣וּסַר אָ֑ב וְ֝הַקְשִׁ֗יבוּ לָדַ֥עַת בִּינָֽה׃

KJV 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

VULC 2 Donum bonum tribuam vobis :
legem meam ne derelinquatis.

WLC 2 כִּ֤י לֶ֣קַח ט֭וֹב נָתַ֣תִּי לָכֶ֑ם תּֽ֝וֹרָתִ֗י אַֽל־ תַּעֲזֹֽבוּ׃

KJV 3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

VULC 3 Nam et ego filius fui patris mei,
tenellus et unigenitus coram matre mea.

WLC 3 כִּי־ בֵ֭ן הָיִ֣יתִי לְאָבִ֑י רַ֥ךְ וְ֝יָחִ֗יד לִפְנֵ֥י אִמִּֽי׃

KJV 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

VULC 4 Et docebat me, atque dicebat :
Suscipiat verba mea cor tuum ;
custodi præcepta mea, et vives.

WLC 4 וַיֹּרֵ֗נִי וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֗י יִֽתְמָךְ־ דְּבָרַ֥י לִבֶּ֑ךָ שְׁמֹ֖ר מִצְוֺתַ֣י וֶֽחְיֵֽה׃

KJV 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

VULC 5 Posside sapientiam, posside prudentiam :
ne obliviscaris, neque declines a verbis oris mei.

WLC 5 קְנֵ֣ה חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה בִינָ֑ה אַל־ תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח וְאַל־ תֵּ֝֗ט מֵֽאִמְרֵי־ פִֽי׃

KJV 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

VULC 6 Ne dimittas eam, et custodiet te :
dilige eam, et conservabit te.

WLC 6 אַל־ תַּעַזְבֶ֥הָ וְתִשְׁמְרֶ֑ךָּ אֱהָבֶ֥הָ וְתִצְּרֶֽךָּ׃

KJV 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

VULC 7 Principium sapientiæ : posside sapientiam,
et in omni possessione tua acquire prudentiam.

WLC 7 רֵאשִׁ֣ית חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה וּבְכָל־ קִ֝נְיָנְךָ֗ קְנֵ֣ה בִינָֽה׃

KJV 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

VULC 8 Arripe illam, et exaltabit te ;
glorificaberis ab ea cum eam fueris amplexatus.

WLC 8 סַלְסְלֶ֥הָ וּֽתְרוֹמְמֶ֑ךָּ תְּ֝כַבֵּ֗דְךָ כִּ֣י תְחַבְּקֶֽנָּה׃

KJV 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

VULC 9 Dabit capiti tuo augmenta gratiarum,
et corona inclyta proteget te.]

WLC 9 תִּתֵּ֣ן לְ֭רֹאשְׁךָ לִוְיַת־ חֵ֑ן עֲטֶ֖רֶת תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת תְּמַגְּנֶֽךָּ׃

KJV 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

VULC 10 [Audi, fili mi, et suscipe verba mea,
ut multiplicentur tibi anni vitæ.

WLC 10 שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִי וְקַ֣ח אֲמָרָ֑י וְיִרְבּ֥וּ לְ֝ךָ֗ שְׁנ֣וֹת חַיִּֽים׃

KJV 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

VULC 11 Viam sapientiæ monstrabo tibi ;
ducam te per semitas æquitatis :

WLC 11 בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ חָ֭כְמָה הֹרֵתִ֑יךָ הִ֝דְרַכְתִּ֗יךָ בְּמַעְגְּלֵי־ יֹֽשֶׁר׃

KJV 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

VULC 12 quas cum ingressus fueris, non arctabuntur gressus tui,
et currens non habebis offendiculum.

WLC 12 בְּֽ֭לֶכְתְּךָ לֹא־ יֵצַ֣ר צַעֲדֶ֑ךָ וְאִם־ תָּ֝ר֗וּץ לֹ֣א תִכָּשֵֽׁל׃

KJV 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

VULC 13 Tene disciplinam, ne dimittas eam ;
custodi illam, quia ipsa est vita tua.

WLC 13 הַחֲזֵ֣ק בַּמּוּסָ֣ר אַל־ תֶּ֑רֶף נִ֝צְּרֶ֗הָ כִּי־ הִ֥יא חַיֶּֽיךָ׃

KJV 14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

VULC 14 Ne delecteris in semitis impiorum,
nec tibi placeat malorum via.

WLC 14 בְּאֹ֣רַח רְ֭שָׁעִים אַל־ תָּבֹ֑א וְאַל־ תְּ֝אַשֵּׁ֗ר בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ רָעִֽים׃

KJV 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

VULC 15 Fuge ab ea, nec transeas per illam ;
declina, et desere eam.

WLC 15 פְּרָעֵ֥הוּ אַל־ תַּעֲבָר־ בּ֑וֹ שְׂטֵ֖ה מֵעָלָ֣יו וַעֲבֽוֹר׃

KJV 16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

VULC 16 Non enim dormiunt nisi malefecerint,
et rapitur somnus ab eis nisi supplantaverint.

WLC 16 כִּ֤י לֹ֣א יִֽ֭שְׁנוּ אִם־ לֹ֣א יָרֵ֑עוּ וְֽנִגְזְלָ֥ה שְׁ֝נָתָ֗ם אִם־ לֹ֥א

KJV 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

VULC 17 Comedunt panem impietatis,
et vinum iniquitatis bibunt.

WLC 17 כִּ֣י לָ֭חֲמוּ לֶ֣חֶם רֶ֑שַׁע וְיֵ֖ין חֲמָסִ֣ים יִשְׁתּֽוּ׃

KJV 18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

VULC 18 Justorum autem semita quasi lux splendens procedit,
et crescit usque ad perfectam diem.

WLC 18 וְאֹ֣רַח צַ֭דִּיקִים כְּא֣וֹר נֹ֑גַהּ הוֹלֵ֥ךְ וָ֝א֗וֹר עַד־ נְכ֥וֹן הַיּֽוֹם׃

KJV 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

VULC 19 Via impiorum tenebrosa ;
nesciunt ubi corruant.

WLC 19 דֶּ֣רֶךְ רְ֭שָׁעִים כָּֽאֲפֵלָ֑ה לֹ֥א יָ֝דְע֗וּ בַּמֶּ֥ה יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ׃

KJV 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

VULC 20 Fili mi, ausculta sermones meos,
et ad eloquia mea inclina aurem tuam.

WLC 20 בְּ֭נִי לִדְבָרַ֣י הַקְשִׁ֑יבָה לַ֝אֲמָרַ֗י הַט־ אָזְנֶֽךָ׃

KJV 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

VULC 21 Ne recedant ab oculis tuis :
custodi ea in medio cordis tui :

WLC 21 אַל־ יַלִּ֥יזוּ מֵעֵינֶ֑יךָ שָׁ֝מְרֵ֗ם בְּת֣וֹךְ לְבָבֶֽךָ׃

KJV 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

VULC 22 vita enim sunt invenientibus ea,
et universæ carni sanitas.

WLC 22 כִּֽי־ חַיִּ֣ים הֵ֭ם לְמֹצְאֵיהֶ֑ם וּֽלְכָל־ בְּשָׂר֥וֹ מַרְפֵּֽא׃

KJV 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

VULC 23 Omni custodia serva cor tuum,
quia ex ipso vita procedit.

WLC 23 מִֽכָּל־ מִ֭שְׁמָר נְצֹ֣ר לִבֶּ֑ךָ כִּֽי־ מִ֝מֶּ֗נּוּ תּוֹצְא֥וֹת חַיִּֽים׃

KJV 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

VULC 24 Remove a te os pravum,
et detrahentia labia sint procul a te.

WLC 24 הָסֵ֣ר מִ֭מְּךָ עִקְּשׁ֣וּת פֶּ֑ה וּלְז֥וּת שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם הַרְחֵ֥ק מִמֶּֽךָּ׃

KJV 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

VULC 25 Oculi tui recta videant,
et palpebræ tuæ præcedant gressus tuos.

WLC 25 עֵ֭ינֶיךָ לְנֹ֣כַח יַבִּ֑יטוּ וְ֝עַפְעַפֶּ֗יךָ יַיְשִׁ֥רוּ נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃

KJV 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

VULC 26 Dirige semitam pedibus tuis,
et omnes viæ tuæ stabilientur.

WLC 26 פַּ֭לֵּס מַעְגַּ֣ל רַגְלֶ֑ךָ וְֽכָל־ דְּרָכֶ֥יךָ יִכֹּֽנוּ׃

KJV 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

VULC 27 Ne declines ad dexteram neque ad sinistram ;
averte pedem tuum a malo :
vias enim quæ a dextris sunt novit Dominus :
perversæ vero sunt quæ a sinistris sunt.
Ipse autem rectos faciet cursus tuos,

KJV 2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

Ne attendas fallaciæ mulieris ;

WLC 2 לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מְזִמּ֑וֹת וְ֝דַ֗עַת שְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ יִנְצֹֽרוּ׃

KJV 3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

VULC 3 favus enim distillans labia meretricis,
et nitidius oleo guttur ejus :

WLC 3 כִּ֤י נֹ֣פֶת תִּ֭טֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתֵ֣י זָרָ֑ה וְחָלָ֖ק מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן חִכָּֽהּ׃

KJV 4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

VULC 4 novissima autem illius amara quasi absinthium,
et acuta quasi gladius biceps.

WLC 4 וְֽ֭אַחֲרִיתָהּ מָרָ֣ה כַֽלַּעֲנָ֑ה חַ֝דָּ֗ה כְּחֶ֣רֶב פִּיּֽוֹת׃

KJV 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

VULC 5 Pedes ejus descendunt in mortem,
et ad inferos gressus illius penetrant.

WLC 5 רַ֭גְלֶיהָ יֹרְד֣וֹת מָ֑וֶת שְׁ֝א֗וֹל צְעָדֶ֥יהָ יִתְמֹֽכוּ׃

KJV 6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

VULC 6 Per semitam vitæ non ambulant ;
vagi sunt gressus ejus et investigabiles.

WLC 6 אֹ֣רַח חַ֭יִּים פֶּן־ תְּפַלֵּ֑ס נָע֥וּ מַ֝עְגְּלֹתֶ֗יהָ לֹ֣א תֵדָֽע׃

KJV 7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

VULC 7 Nunc ergo fili mi, audi me,
et ne recedas a verbis oris mei.

WLC 7 וְעַתָּ֣ה בָ֭נִים שִׁמְעוּ־ לִ֑י וְאַל־ תָּ֝ס֗וּרוּ מֵאִמְרֵי־ פִֽי׃

KJV 8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

VULC 8 Longe fac ab ea viam tuam,
et ne appropinques foribus domus ejus.

WLC 8 הַרְחֵ֣ק מֵעָלֶ֣יהָ דַרְכֶּ֑ךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝קְרַ֗ב אֶל־ פֶּ֥תַח בֵּיתָֽהּ׃

KJV 9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

VULC 9 Ne des alienis honorem tuum,
et annos tuos crudeli :

WLC 9 פֶּן־ תִּתֵּ֣ן לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים הוֹדֶ֑ךָ וּ֝שְׁנֹתֶ֗יךָ לְאַכְזָרִֽי׃

KJV 10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

VULC 10 ne forte impleantur extranei viribus tuis,
et labores tui sint in domo aliena,

WLC 10 פֶּֽן־ יִשְׂבְּע֣וּ זָרִ֣ים כֹּחֶ֑ךָ וַ֝עֲצָבֶ֗יךָ בְּבֵ֣ית נָכְרִֽי׃

KJV 11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

VULC 11 et gemas in novissimis,
quando consumpseris carnes tuas et corpus tuum,
et dicas :

WLC 11 וְנָהַמְתָּ֥ בְאַחֲרִיתֶ֑ךָ בִּכְל֥וֹת בְּ֝שָׂרְךָ֗ וּשְׁאֵרֶֽךָ׃

KJV 12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

VULC 12 Cur detestatus sum disciplinam,
et increpationibus non acquievit cor meum,

WLC 12 וְֽאָמַרְתָּ֗ אֵ֭יךְ שָׂנֵ֣אתִי מוּסָ֑ר וְ֝תוֹכַ֗חַת נָאַ֥ץ לִבִּֽי׃

KJV 13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

VULC 13 nec audivi vocem docentium me,
et magistris non inclinavi aurem meam ?

WLC 13 וְֽלֹא־ שָׁ֭מַעְתִּי בְּק֣וֹל מוֹרָ֑י וְ֝לִֽמְלַמְּדַ֗י לֹא־ הִטִּ֥יתִי אָזְנִֽי׃

KJV 14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

VULC 14 pene fui in omni malo,
in medio ecclesiæ et synagogæ.

WLC 14 כִּ֭מְעַט הָיִ֣יתִי בְכָל־ רָ֑ע בְּת֖וֹךְ קָהָ֣ל וְעֵדָֽה׃

KJV 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

VULC 15 Bibe aquam de cisterna tua,
et fluenta putei tui ;

WLC 15 שְׁתֵה־ מַ֥יִם מִבּוֹרֶ֑ךָ וְ֝נֹזְלִ֗ים מִתּ֥וֹךְ בְּאֵרֶֽךָ׃

KJV 16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

VULC 16 deriventur fontes tui foras,
et in plateis aquas tuas divide.

WLC 16 יָפ֣וּצוּ מַעְיְנֹתֶ֣יךָ ח֑וּצָה בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת פַּלְגֵי־ מָֽיִם׃

KJV 17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

VULC 17 Habeto eas solus,
nec sint alieni participes tui.

WLC 17 יִֽהְיוּ־ לְךָ֥ לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ וְאֵ֖ין לְזָרִ֣ים אִתָּֽךְ׃

KJV 18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

VULC 18 Sit vena tua benedicta,
et lætare cum muliere adolescentiæ tuæ.

WLC 18 יְהִֽי־ מְקוֹרְךָ֥ בָר֑וּךְ וּ֝שְׂמַ֗ח מֵאֵ֥שֶׁת נְעוּרֶֽךָ׃

KJV 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

VULC 19 Cerva carissima, et gratissimus hinnulus :
ubera ejus inebrient te in omni tempore ;
in amore ejus delectare jugiter.

WLC 19 אַיֶּ֥לֶת אֲהָבִ֗ים וְֽיַעֲלַ֫ת־ חֵ֥ן דַּ֭דֶּיהָ יְרַוֻּ֣ךָ בְכָל־ עֵ֑ת בְּ֝אַהֲבָתָ֗הּ תִּשְׁגֶּ֥ה תָמִֽיד׃

KJV 20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

VULC 20 Quare seduceris, fili mi, ab aliena,
et foveris in sinu alterius ?

WLC 20 וְלָ֤מָּה תִשְׁגֶּ֣ה בְנִ֣י בְזָרָ֑ה וּ֝תְחַבֵּ֗ק חֵ֣ק נָכְרִיָּֽה׃

KJV 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

VULC 21 Respicit Dominus vias hominis,
et omnes gressus ejus considerat.

WLC 21 כִּ֤י נֹ֨כַח ׀ עֵינֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה דַּרְכֵי־ אִ֑ישׁ וְֽכָל־ מַעְגְּלֹתָ֥יו מְפַלֵּֽס׃

KJV 22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

VULC 22 Iniquitates suas capiunt impium,
et funibus peccatorum suorum constringitur.

WLC 22 עַֽווֹנוֹתָ֗יו יִלְכְּדֻנ֥וֹ אֶת־ הָרָשָׁ֑ע וּבְחַבְלֵ֥י חַ֝טָּאת֗וֹ יִתָּמֵֽךְ׃

KJV 23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

VULC 23 Ipse morietur, quia non habuit disciplinam,
et in multitudine stultitiæ suæ decipietur.]

WLC 23 ה֗וּא יָ֭מוּת בְּאֵ֣ין מוּסָ֑ר וּבְרֹ֖ב אִוַּלְתּ֣וֹ יִשְׁגֶּֽה׃

KJV 1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

VULC 1 [Fili mi, si spoponderis pro amico tuo,
defixisti apud extraneum manum tuam :

WLC 1 בְּ֭נִי אִם־ עָרַ֣בְתָּ לְרֵעֶ֑ךָ תָּקַ֖עְתָּ לַזָּ֣ר כַּפֶּֽיךָ׃

KJV 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

VULC 2 illaqueatus es verbis oris tui,
et captus propriis sermonibus.

WLC 2 נוֹקַ֥שְׁתָּ בְאִמְרֵי־ פִ֑יךָ נִ֝לְכַּ֗דְתָּ בְּאִמְרֵי־ פִֽיךָ׃

KJV 3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

VULC 3 Fac ergo quod dico, fili mi, et temetipsum libera,
quia incidisti in manum proximi tui.
Discurre, festina, suscita amicum tuum.

WLC 3 עֲשֵׂ֨ה זֹ֥את אֵפ֪וֹא ׀ בְּנִ֡י וְֽהִנָּצֵ֗ל כִּ֘י בָ֤אתָ בְכַף־ רֵעֶ֑ךָ לֵ֥ךְ הִ֝תְרַפֵּ֗ס וּרְהַ֥ב רֵעֶֽיךָ׃

KJV 4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

VULC 4 Ne dederis somnum oculis tuis,
nec dormitent palpebræ tuæ.

WLC 4 אַל־ תִּתֵּ֣ן שֵׁנָ֣ה לְעֵינֶ֑יךָ וּ֝תְנוּמָ֗ה לְעַפְעַפֶּֽיךָ׃

KJV 5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

VULC 5 Eruere quasi damula de manu,
et quasi avis de manu aucupis.]

WLC 5 הִ֭נָּצֵל כִּצְבִ֣י מִיָּ֑ד וּ֝כְצִפּ֗וֹר מִיַּ֥ד יָקֽוּשׁ׃

KJV 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

VULC 6 [Vade ad formicam, o piger,
et considera vias ejus, et disce sapientiam.

WLC 6 לֵֽךְ־ אֶל־ נְמָלָ֥ה עָצֵ֑ל רְאֵ֖ה דְרָכֶ֣יהָ וַחֲכָֽם׃

KJV 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

VULC 7 Quæ cum non habeat ducem,
nec præceptorem, nec principem,

WLC 7 אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵֽין־ לָ֥הּ קָצִ֗ין שֹׁטֵ֥ר וּמֹשֵֽׁל׃

KJV 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

VULC 8 parat in æstate cibum sibi,
et congregat in messe quod comedat.

WLC 8 תָּכִ֣ין בַּקַּ֣יִץ לַחְמָ֑הּ אָגְרָ֥ה בַ֝קָּצִ֗יר מַאֲכָלָֽהּ׃

KJV 9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

VULC 9 Usquequo, piger, dormies ?
quando consurges e somno tuo ?

WLC 9 עַד־ מָתַ֖י עָצֵ֥ל ׀ תִּשְׁכָּ֑ב מָ֝תַ֗י תָּק֥וּם מִשְּׁנָתֶֽךָ׃

KJV 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

VULC 10 Paululum dormies, paululum dormitabis,
paululum conseres manus ut dormias ;

WLC 10 מְעַ֣ט שֵׁ֭נוֹת מְעַ֣ט תְּנוּמ֑וֹת מְעַ֓ט ׀ חִבֻּ֖ק יָדַ֣יִם לִשְׁכָּֽב׃
